- கிளாஸ்கோவில் நடக்க உள்ள இந்த உச்சி மாநாடு அக்டோபர் 31-ஆம் தேதி முதல் நவம்பர் 12-ஆம் தேதி வரை நடைபெறவுள்ளது.
- புதைபடிம எரிபொருட்களை அதிகம் பயன்படுத்துவதால் வெளியாகும் புகையால் உலகம் தொடர்ந்து வெப்பமடைந்து வருகிறது. பருவநிலை மாற்றம் காரணமாக உண்டாகும் தீவிர நிகழ்வுகளான வெப்ப அலைகள், வெள்ளம், காட்டுத்தீ ஆகியவை அதிகரித்து வருகின்றன.
- இதுவரை வெப்பம் பதிவு செய்யப்பட்ட காலங்களிலேயே கடந்த தசாப்த தான் மிகவும் அதிக வெப்பம் வாய்ந்ததாக உள்ளது. அனைத்து நாடுகளின் அரசாங்கங்களும் இவற்றைக் கட்டுப்படுத்த கூட்டு நடவடிக்கை தேவை என்று ஒப்புக் கொண்டுள்ளன.
- கிளாஸ்கோவில் நடைபெறவுள்ள இந்த உச்சிமாநாட்டில் 2030ஆம் ஆண்டுக்குள் எரிபொருள் வாயிலான தங்கள் உமிழ்வுகளைக் கட்டுப்படுத்துவதற்கு தங்களிடம் கொண்டுள்ள திட்டம் என்ன என்பதை, இதில் பங்கேற்கும் 200 நாடுகளும் தெரிவிக்க வேண்டும்.
- தொழிற்புரட்சி காலத்துக்கு முன்பு இருந்த வெப்பநிலையை விட 2 டிகிரி செல்சியசுக்கும் மிகாமல் புவி வெப்பமயமாதலை கட்டுப்படுத்த வேண்டும் என்று 2015ஆம் ஆண்டு உலக நாடுகள் ஒப்பந்தம் ஒன்றில் கையெழுத்திட்டன.
- 2 டிகிரிக்கும் மிகக்கூடாது என்று குறிப்பிடப்பட்டிருந்தாலும், தொழிற்புரட்சி காலத்துக்கு முந்தைய வெப்பநிலையை விட 1.5 டிகிரி செல்சியஸ் அளவில் அதை கட்டுப்படுத்த வேண்டும் என்பது அந்த ஒப்பந்தத்தின் இலக்கு.
- பருவநிலை மாற்றம் காரணமாக உண்டாகும் பேரழிவுகளை தவிர்ப்பதற்காக உலக நாடுகள் கையெழுத்திட்டு இந்த ஒப்பந்தம்தான் "பாரிஸ் பருவநிலை ஒப்பந்தம்" என்று அழைக்கப்படுகிறது.
- இந்த ஒப்பந்தத்தின் கீழ், 2050ஆம் ஆண்டில் தங்களது நிகர எரிபொருள் உமிழ்வுகளை பூஜ்ஜியம் எனும் அளவில் கொண்டு வருவதற்கு உலக நாடுகள் பெருமளவில் தங்கள் கார்பன் வெளியேற்றத்தை குறைக்க வேண்டி இருக்கும். (வெளியேற்றப்பட்ட கார்பன், உறிஞ்சப்பட்ட கார்பன் ஆகியவற்றின் இடையே உள்ள வேறுபாடு நிகர உமிழ்வு எனப்படும்.)
- COP - COP என்பது கான்ஃப்ரன்ஸ் ஆஃப் த பார்ட்டீஸ் (Conference of the Parties) என்பதன் சுருக்கம். COP1 மாநாடு 1995ஆம் ஆண்டு நடைபெற்றது. தற்போது நடக்கும் மாநாடு 26வது மாநாடு என்பதால் COP26 என்று அழைக்கப்படுகிறது.
- பாரிஸ் பருவநிலை ஒப்பந்தம் - புவி வெப்பமயமாதலை கட்டுப்படுத்தும் பசுமை இல்ல வாயுக்களின் வெளியேற்றத்தை கட்டுப்படுத்தவும் உலக நாடுகள் அனைத்தையும் ஒன்றாக இணைக்கும் முதல் ஒப்பந்தமாக பாரிஸ் பருவநிலை ஒப்பந்தம் உள்ளது.
- ஐபிசிசி - பருவநிலை மாற்றம் தொடர்பான நாடுகளிடையேயான குழு ஐபிசிசி என்று அழைக்கப்படுகிறது. தற்போது பருவநிலை மாற்றம் தொடர்பான அறிவியல் ஆய்வுகளை இந்த குழுதான் மேற்கொண்டு வருகிறது.
- 1.5 டிகிரி செல்சியஸ் - பருவநிலை மாற்றத்தின் மோசமான விளைவுகளை தவிர்க்க வேண்டுமென்றால் தொழிற்புரட்சி காலத்திற்கு முன்பு இருந்த சராசரி வெப்பநிலையை விட 1.5 டிகிரி செல்சியஸ் வெப்பநிலை அளவுக்கு புவி வெப்பமயமாதல் அதிகரிக்கக் கூடாது என்று அறிவியலாளர்கள் கூறுகிறார்கள்.

- Although it was stated that it should not exceed 2 degrees, the goal of the agreement was to control it by 1.5 degrees Celsius above the pre-Industrial Revolution temperature. This agreement, signed by the nations of the world to avoid disasters caused by climate change, is called the "Paris Climate Agreement".
- Under the agreement, the world's nations will have to drastically reduce their carbon emissions to bring their net fuel emissions to zero by 2050. (The difference between the emitted carbon and the absorbed carbon is called the net emission.)
- COP - COP stands for Conference of the Parties. The COP1 conference was held in 1995. The current conference is called COP26 because it is the 26th conference.
- Paris Climate Agreement - The Paris Climate Agreement is the first agreement between the nations of the world to control the emission of greenhouse gases to control global warming.
- IPCC - The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change is called the IPCC. The group is currently conducting scientific research on climate change.
- 1.5 degrees Celsius - Scientists say global warming should not exceed 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial average to avoid the ill effects of climate change.
