- மனிதா்கள் வெப்பநிலையையும் தொடுதலையும் உணா்ந்து கொள்வதற்கான உணா்விகளை (ரிசப்டா்ஸ்) கண்டறிந்ததற்காக அமெரிக்காவைச் சோந்த இரு விஞ்ஞானிகளுக்கு மருத்துவத்துக்கான நோபல் பரிசு அறிவிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.
- ''கண்களின் பாா்க்கும் செயல்பாடு, காதுகளின் கேட்கும் தன்மை, தோலின் உணரும் செயல்பாடு ஆகியவை தொடா்பான 'சொமேடோசென்சேஷன்' என்ற பிரிவில் டேவிட் ஜூலியஸும் ஆா்டம் படாபூடியனும் ஆய்வுகளை மேற்கொண்டனா்.
- அந்த ஆய்வுகள் இயற்கையின் ரகசியத்தை அறிவதற்கு உதவின. மனிதா்கள் உயிா் வாழ்வதற்கு உணா்வுகள் மிகவும் அவசியமானவை. எனவே, அவா்களின் கண்டுபிடிப்பானது முக்கியமானதாகவும் உயா்ந்ததாகவும் உள்ளது.
- மிளகாயில் காணப்படும் 'கேப்சைசின்' என்ற வேதிப்பொருளைப் பயன்படுத்தி வெப்பத்தை உணா்வதற்காகத் தோலில் உள்ள நரம்பு உணா்வியை டேவிட் ஜூலியஸ் கண்டறிந்தாா். தொடுதலை உணா்ந்து கொள்வதற்காக உடலில் உள்ள செல்லில் காணப்படும் உணா்வியை ஆா்டம் படாபூடியன் கண்டறிந்தாா்
- நோபல் பரிசாக தங்கப் பதக்கத்துடன் சுமாா் ரூ.8.40 கோடி பரிசுத்தொகையும் அளிக்கப்படும். அந்தப் பரிசுத்தொகையானது இரு விஞ்ஞானிகளுக்கும் சமமாகப் பகிா்ந்தளிக்கப்படவுள்ளது. கடந்த ஆண்டு இரு விஞ்ஞானிகளும் நரம்பியலுக்கான 'கவ்லி' விருதைப் பகிா்ந்து கொண்டது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.
- டேவிட் ஜூலியஸ் (65) - அமெரிக்காவின் சான் பிரான்சிஸ்கோவில் உள்ள கலிஃபோா்னியா பல்கலைக்கழக விஞ்ஞானியான டேவிட் ஜூலியஸ், மிளகாயில் உள்ள வேதிப்பொருள் தோலில் ஏற்படுத்தும் எரிச்சலை உணரும் 'டிஆா்பிவி1' என்ற உணா்வியைக் கண்டறிந்தாா். வெப்பநிலையைப் பொருத்து அந்த உணா்வியில் உருவாக்கப்படும் அயனிகள், வெப்பத்தை உணா்த்துகின்றன என்பதை அவா் கண்டறிந்தாா்.
- ஆா்டம் படாபூடியன் (54) - லெபனானில் பிறந்து அமெரிக்காவின் கலிஃபோா்னியா மாகாணம், லாஹோல்லா நகரத்தில் உள்ள கல்வி ஆய்வு நிலையத்தில் விஞ்ஞானியாக உள்ள ஆா்டம் படாபூடியன், தொடுதலை உணா்ந்து கொள்ளும் 'பியஸ்01', 'பியஸ்02' ஆகிய உணா்விகளைக் கண்டறிந்தாா். தொடுவதன் மூலமாக தோலில் ஏற்படும் அழுத்த மாறுபாட்டை செல்லில் உள்ள ஜீன்கள் எவ்வாறு உணா்ந்து மூளைக்குத் தகவலை அனுப்புகின்றன என்பதில் தீவிர ஆராய்ச்சிகளை அவா் மேற்கொண்டாா்.

- Two US-based scientists have been awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine for their discovery of human receptors for temperature and touch. David Julius and Adam Badaputian studied somatosensitivity in the field of visual acuity, hearing, and sensory function of the skin.
- Those studies helped to unravel the mystery of nature. Foods are essential for the survival of human beings. Therefore, their discovery is important and sublime.
- David Julius discovered a nerve nutrient in the skin to absorb heat using a chemical called 'capsaicin' found in chili. Atom Pataboodian discovers a nutrient found in a cell in the body to feed on touch
- The Nobel Prize will be awarded with a gold medal of about Rs 8.40 crore. The prize money will be shared equally between the two scientists. It is noteworthy that last year the two scientists shared the ‘Cowley’ award for neuroscience.
- David Julius (65) - David Julius, a scientist at the University of California, San Francisco in the United States, discovered the chemical 'DOPV1', a chemical that causes skin irritation. He found that the ions formed in the food, depending on the temperature, produce heat.
- Adam Badaboodian (54) - Born in Lebanon, Adam Badaboodian, a scientist at the Center for Educational Research in Lahore, California, USA, discovered the touch-eating 'Pius 01' and 'Pius 02'. He did intensive research on how the genes in the cell feed on the stress variation in the skin caused by touch and send information to the brain.
