Rs.11,040 crore for cooking oil project

  • Our country produces 2.4 crore tonnes of cooking oil per year. The remaining requirements are imported from abroad. In 2019, 1.5 crore tonnes of cooking oil worth Rs 7,300 crore was imported from abroad.
  • Palm oil is imported from Indonesia, Malaysia, soybean oil from Brazil and Argentina, and sunflower oil from Russia and Ukraine. Palm oil accounts for 55 per cent of total imports.
  • Following this, the central government planned to increase domestic palm oil production. In turn, Prime Minister Modi recently announced a national plan for cooking oils.
  • Under the scheme, it was planned to increase palm oil production by offering various incentives, including financial assistance to palm farmers. The Union Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved the allocation of Rs 11,40 crore for the National Plan for Cooking Oils.
  • Under this plan, the domestic production of palm oil is targeted to increase to 11 lakh tonnes by 2025-26.
Women may also be allowed to write the National Defense Academy exam - Supreme Court interim order to federal government
  • The federal government had refused to allow women to take the entrance exam to join the NDA, the National Security Academy.
  • The Ministry of Defense said the selection was for men only. Thus only men in the NDA can study together. The federal government had said that this was a policy decision of the Ministry of Defense.
  • Meanwhile, Kush Kalra has filed a public interest litigation (PIL) in the Supreme Court against the decision of the Union Ministry of Defense. He had demanded that women should also be allowed to appear for the NDA exam.
  • The case came up for hearing yesterday before a bench comprising Supreme Court judges Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Rishikesh Roy.
  • The Supreme Court has issued an interim order that women can also write the National Defense Academy (NDA) exam
Odisha government sponsors Indian hockey teams for next 10 years
  • An appreciation ceremony was held yesterday on behalf of the Government of Odisha for the Indian men's and women's hockey teams who have added pride to India in the Olympics. The player, the athletes were brought in procession and honored.

  • From Tamil Nadu, Asha Devi, Headmaster, Pratiyur Panchayat Union Middle School, Trichy District, and Lalita, Headmaster, Modakkurichi Government Girls' High School, Erode District have been selected for the award. A teacher has been selected from Pondicherry.
