Inflation Rises to 5.54% in September
  • According to data released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), retail inflation stood at 5.54 percent in September, compared to the previous month. Meanwhile, food inflation reached 7.74 percent.
  • This rise is attributed to increased prices of essential commodities, vegetables, and key cooking ingredients. The impact is felt most acutely by low- and middle-income families.
  • In September, the retail inflation rate was 6.08 percent in rural areas, while it was recorded at 4.88 percent in urban areas. This indicates that the cost of living is rising faster in rural areas than in cities, primarily driven by the hike in food prices.
  • Food inflation stood at 8.06 percent in rural areas, compared to 7.18 percent in urban areas. These figures reveal that prices are rising even in agricultural production regions due to supply chain disruptions and weather-related factors.
