Successful Test of Indigenously Developed Long-Range Precision Strike Bomb 'Gagandhak-243'
  • Bombs used for aerial attacks on enemy forces have largely been imported from abroad. The Central Government has initiated efforts to indigenously manufacture this bomb, which is capable of flying long distances and striking targets with precision.
  • As part of this initiative, glide bombs have been designed and developed by JSR Dynamics. These bombs are engineered to glide towards their target, utilizing airflow after being released from an aircraft.
  • When dropped from an aircraft flying at an altitude of 12 kilometers, these bombs can accurately strike targets at distances ranging from 144 kilometers up to a maximum of 180 kilometers.
  • This capability allows for striking targets within enemy nations without the need to enter their airspace. The successful testing of the 'Gagantak-243' glide bomb has further strengthened indigenous defense manufacturing capabilities.
Bar Council Lacks Authority to Punish Law Students: Supreme Court's Landmark Ruling
  • Students at NALSAR University of Law in Hyderabad staged a protest opposing the scheduled participation of Chief Justice Surya Kant as the chief guest at the university's convocation ceremony.
  • Following this, Manan Kumar Mishra, Chairman of the Bar Council of India (BCI), ordered the suspension of the registration of graduating law students at NALSAR and directed an inquiry involving students and faculty regarding the alleged campaign against the Chief Justice of India.
  • However, he withdrew the order within an hour and apologized to the students for it. Nevertheless, NALSAR alumni Mahira Sood and Abhishek Tiwari filed a petition in the Supreme Court challenging the BCI's authority to issue such an order.
  • The case came up for hearing before a bench comprising Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V. Mohana. Appearing on behalf of the petitioners, Senior Advocate K. Parameswar argued that even though the order had been withdrawn, it was necessary to examine the authority or legal provision under which the BCI Chairman had issued such orders.
  • Manan Kumar Mishra informed the court that the order he had issued was immediately withdrawn and the matter was closed following a meeting of the Bar Council of India.
  • Subsequently, in their verdict, the judges stated, "Neither the Bar Council of India nor the State Bar Councils possess the authority to initiate disciplinary action against law students. The powers conferred upon the BCI under the Advocates Act, 1961, apply only to enrolled advocates. The Bar Council acquires jurisdiction to initiate disciplinary proceedings against a law graduate only after they have enrolled as an advocate.
  • Regarding law students, the authority to take disciplinary action against them rests solely with the educational institution where they study or with a competent officer appointed by that institution. The orders issued by Manan Kumar Mishra were issued without any legal authority."
