GST Collections for August 2026
- According to data released by the Central Government, the country's total GST collection for August rose by approximately 15 percent, reaching a historic high of ₹1,99,853 crore (roughly ₹2 lakh crore).
- This represents a significant growth of 14.8 percent compared to the ₹1,74,116 crore collected in August of the previous year (2025). In August, Central GST (CGST) collections stood at ₹38,413 crore, while State GST (SGST) collections were ₹46,316 crore. Integrated GST (IGST) collections exceeded ₹1.15 lakh crore.
- Tax refunds increased by 68 percent, reaching ₹31,795 crore. GST revenue from domestic transactions rose by 9.3 percent, surpassing ₹1.37 lakh crore. Total GST revenue from imports increased by 29 percent, rising to ₹62,604 crore.
- In a case seeking the dismissal of police cases filed against students who protested against the NEET question paper leak, the Supreme Court exercised its special powers to quash all such cases.
- After considering the petitions filed by the Central Government, the Supreme Court dismissed all the cases by invoking the powers granted under Article 142 of the Constitution.
- The Central Government has assured that the students' remaining demands will also be fulfilled in an appropriate manner. Following this favorable assurance from the Central Government, the CJP party has officially announced the withdrawal of the protest that was scheduled for September 5th.
- The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) comprises China, Russia, India, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Iran, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, and Tajikistan as member nations. The summit of this bloc commenced in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan.
