Tamil Nadu Government Signs MoUs with Samvardhana Motherson International Ltd. and Ernst & Young
- A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed today (14.09.2026) in London, UK, between the Tamil Nadu government’s investment promotion agency (Guidance) and Samvardhana Motherson International Ltd. (along with its European and UK-based affiliates).
- The agreement entails an investment of approximately ₹11,000 crore in Tamil Nadu across sectors such as design, engineering, manufacturing, assembly, and logistics, creating employment opportunities for around 7,000 people.
- The MoU was signed and exchanged by Barry Painter, Head of Global Marketing and Communications at Samvardhana Motherson International Group, and Deepak Jacob, Managing Director of Guidance (Tamil Nadu’s investment promotion agency).
- Additionally, two MoUs were signed regarding the establishment and expansion of Global Capability Centres (GCCs) in Tamil Nadu.
- Guidance (Tamil Nadu’s investment promotion agency) signed an MoU with Ernst & Young to facilitate the establishment of a Global Capability Centre (GCC) in Tamil Nadu by a leading UK-based global communications company.
- This centre, which will involve an investment of approximately ₹1,000 crore and create over 2,000 high-value jobs, is set to be located in the newly announced 'GCC corridor' along Mount-Poonamallee Road in Chennai.
- The All-India Wholesale Price Index (WPI) inflation for August 2026 stands at 9.92 percent on a year-on-year basis, compared to 9.78 percent in July 2026. The index for all commodities is 110.8 in August 2026, whereas it was 110.0 in July 2026.
- The year-on-year inflation rates for key categories Primary Articles, Fuel & Power, and Manufactured Products were 8.52 percent, 20.05 percent, and 8.29 percent respectively in July 2026; in August 2026, these stood at 7.76 percent, 22.93 percent, and 8.37 percent respectively.
- The indices for Primary Articles, Fuel & Power, and Manufactured Products stand at 118.1, 108.3, and 108.8 respectively in August 2026, compared to 117.2, 105.4, and 108.4 respectively in July 2026.
- Across various categories, mineral oils (including petroleum products), food articles, manufacture of food products, manufacture of basic metals, non-food articles, and chemicals were the primary drivers of WPI inflation in August 2026.
