Tamil Nadu Secures Top Spot in Organ Donation Again
- Tamil Nadu has been awarded the national 'Best State' award for its outstanding contribution to organ donation at the 16th Indian Organ Donation Day ceremony held at the Dr. Ambedkar International Centre in Delhi.
- Commending this achievement, Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare and Chemicals and Fertilizers, Smt. Anupriya Patel, presented the prestigious award to Thiru Ma. Subramanian, the Minister for Medical and Family Welfare, who received it on behalf of the Tamil Nadu government.
- Amidst a massive uproar by opposition parties, the Lok Sabha successfully passed the amendment bill to increase the number of Supreme Court judges via a voice vote, without a formal debate.
- The total strength of Supreme Court judges, including the Chief Justice of India, is set to increase from 34 to 38. Union Minister of Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal introduced the amendment bill in Parliament; this new bill replaces an earlier ordinance.
- The Union Government stated that this measure aims to strengthen the overall functioning of the judiciary and enhance judicial efficiency by expediting the disposal of long-pending cases in the Supreme Court. The bill is expected to be passed in the Rajya Sabha soon before being sent for the President's assent.
