Chief Minister Vijay Makes Major Announcements in the Legislative Assembly Under Rule 110
  • Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay made a significant announcement regarding power infrastructure today in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly under Rule 110.
  • It was announced that 196 new substations would be established across Tamil Nadu. Plans include laying 15,000 kilometers of new power lines and strengthening existing ones. A power transmission network improvement scheme, valued at ₹33,066 crore, will be implemented to enhance the state's power distribution and ensure uninterrupted electricity supply.
  • He stated that, as part of this initiative, 196 new substations would be set up across the state. Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay also announced the establishment of a new supercritical thermal power station in Thoothukudi to boost industrial activity and power generation.
  • He presented a major proposal in the Assembly to construct new thermal power units, each with a capacity of 800 MW. He announced that a new supercritical thermal power station with a total capacity of 1,600 MW would be established at an estimated cost of ₹20,800 crore.
  • Furthermore, Chief Minister Vijay announced the creation of a massive 'Semiconductor Park' in Kancheepuram to boost technological infrastructure and employment opportunities.
  • A Digital Finance Centre (Coimbatore Fintech Centre) will be established in Coimbatore at a cost of ₹400 crore through the Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO).
  • A semiconductor and electronics manufacturing park will be set up by SIPCOT at Maduramangalam in Kancheepuram district at a cost of ₹175 crore. World-class Research and Development (R&D) facilities will be established here. This initiative will generate direct and indirect employment opportunities for approximately 5,000 people.
  • Acceding to the long-standing demand of milk producers in Tamil Nadu, the state government has announced an increase in the Aavin milk procurement price. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay announced today that the Aavin procurement price has been raised by an additional ₹3 per litre.
Services Production Index for June 2026
  • The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation has released the Services Production Index for 19 sub-sectors for June 2026, using the year 2024-25 as the base. Data regarding the Services Production Index for June 2026 and the growth rate compared to June 2025 have been published.
  • Accordingly, the index for wholesale trade stands at 122.8, which is 15.1 percent higher than in June 2025. The retail trade index is 138, marking an 18 percent increase over June 2025. The index for the repair services sector is 120.1, an increase of 7.5 percent compared to June 2025. 
  • The index for the accommodation and food services sector stands at 141.2, which is 10.2 percent higher than in June 2025. The index for the rail transport sector is 105.5, representing a 3.3 percent increase over June 2025.
QUARTERLY ESTIMATES OF GROSS DOMESTIC PRODUCT FOR THE FIRST QUARTER (APRIL - JUNE) OF 2026 - 2027
  • The Ministry has released the New Series of Annual and Quarterly GDP estimates with base year 2022-23 on 27th February, 2026 and subsequently Provisional Estimates of GDP for 2025-26 was released on 5th June, 2026. 
  • Real GDP or GDP at Constant Prices in Q1 of FY 2026-27 is estimated at ₹81.36 lakh crore, against ₹75.46 lakh crore in Q1 of FY 2025-26, showing a growth rate of 7.8%. Nominal GDP or GDP at Current Prices in Q1 of FY 2026-27 is estimated at ₹88.27 lakh crore, against ₹80.00 lakh crore in Q1 of FY 2025-26, showing a growth rate of 10.3%.
  • Real GVA in Q1 of FY 2026-27 is estimated at ₹73.82 lakh crore, against ₹68.21 lakh crore in Q1 of FY 2025-26, showing a growth rate of 8.2%. Nominal GVA in Q1 of FY 2026-27 is estimated at ₹80.53 lakh crore, against ₹72.24 lakh crore in Q1 of FY 2025-26, showing a growth rate of 11.5%.
