PM Modi Lays Foundation Stone for Projects Worth ₹18,000 Crore in Andhra Pradesh
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi has laid the foundation stone for and inaugurated various development projects worth approximately ₹18,000 crore, aimed at boosting the infrastructure, energy, and transport sectors in Andhra Pradesh.
- The Prime Minister inaugurated the 'Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport' at Bhogapuram in Vizianagaram district, developed under a public-private partnership model at a cost of over ₹5,600 crore.
- Built using modern technology and Andhra's traditional architectural style, this greenfield airport has the capacity to handle 60 lakh (6 million) passengers annually in its first phase.
- The Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for Andhra Pradesh's first semiconductor plant, to be set up in Visakhapatnam at a cost of ₹460 crore. Solar and wind power transmission corridor projects in Kurnool and Anantapur were also inaugurated. Additionally, the foundation stone was laid for National Highway projects worth ₹1,880 crore.
- Total GST collections rose to ₹2.11 lakh crore in July this year, up from ₹1.83 lakh crore in July last year. Similarly, collections have seen a significant increase compared to the ₹1.95 lakh crore recorded last month.
- Furthermore, the country's Goods and Services Tax (GST) collection for July marks a 15.4 percent increase compared to the previous year. According to data from the Central Government, Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) collections for the month stood at ₹39,835 crore.
- Collections stood at ₹47,881 crore for the State Goods and Services Tax (SGST) and ₹1.23 lakh crore for the Integrated Goods and Services Tax (IGST). The Union Ministry of Finance also announced that ₹7,391 crore has been released to Tamil Nadu as part of the GST devolution.
- The Union Budget for the current fiscal year indicated that over ₹1 lakh crore would be provided to states through tax devolution. Based on the recommendations of the 16th Finance Commission, the states' share of tax devolution has been maintained at 41 percent.
- Of this amount, ₹4,466 crore has been released to Tamil Nadu. These funds have been released to enable Indian states to implement development projects without hindrance.
- In the fund allocation released by the Central Government, the highest amount of ₹19,208 crore was allocated to the populous state of Uttar Pradesh.
- The allocations are as follows: Uttar Pradesh – ₹19,208 crore; Bihar – ₹10,845 crore; Madhya Pradesh – ₹8,010 crore; West Bengal – ₹7,866 crore; Maharashtra – ₹7,022 crore; Rajasthan – ₹6,460 crore; Odisha – ₹4,819 crore; Andhra Pradesh – ₹4,597 crore; Karnataka – ₹4,504 crore; Tamil Nadu – ₹4,466 crore; and Jharkhand – ₹3,660 crore.
- India's medal tally continues to rise daily at the Commonwealth Games currently underway in Glasgow. In the boxing events held today, Indian athletes Preeti Pawar and Jaismine Lamboria impressed by winning gold medals.
- With this achievement, they have secured Commonwealth Games titles for the second consecutive time. Additionally, in the men's triple jump event, Praveen Chithravel won the silver medal with a jump of 16.58 meters, while Selva Prabhu Thirumaran claimed the bronze with a jump of 16.52 meters.
- Next, India's Jadumani Singh Mandengbam won the silver medal in the men's 55kg weight category. Similarly, in the 'Shot Put F57' event, India's Soman Rana and Shubham Goyal won gold and silver medals, respectively.
- Meanwhile, in the women's 10,000m race, Indian athlete Priyanka finished fourth, narrowly missing out on the bronze medal. Consequently, India currently holds the sixth position in the 2026 Commonwealth Games with a total of 30 medals—comprising 8 gold, 15 silver, and 7 bronze.
