MoU Signed in the Presence of Chief Minister Vijay to Set Up a Car Parts Manufacturing Plant with an Investment of ₹300 Crore

• MotivLink, a leading automotive component manufacturer, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) today in the presence of Chief Minister Vijay to establish a manufacturing plant at the SIPCOT Pillapakkam Industrial Park in Kancheepuram district, with an investment of ₹300 crore. This initiative is expected to create employment opportunities for 1,500 people.

Tamil Nadu Government Constitutes a Special Expert Advisory Committee on El Niño Impact

• Following warnings of a high probability of a strong 'El Niño' climate event occurring in Tamil Nadu in 2026, the State Government has issued an order constituting a 'Special Expert Advisory Committee' to scientifically monitor its impacts and implement appropriate precautionary measures.
• A special expert committee has been formed under the 'Tamil Nadu Disaster Risk Reduction Agency' (TNDRRA) to address such climate challenges, identify potential impacts related to drought and floods, and provide necessary advice to the government.
• Chaired by the Commissioner of Revenue Administration and State Relief Commissioner, the committee includes climate change experts from various academic and research institutions as members:
• Professor S. Kanmani – Director/Head of Department, Centre for Climate Change and Disaster Management, Anna University.
• Dr. Balaji Narasimhan – Professor, IIT Madras.
• Dr. Arivudai Nambi Appadurai – Director, WRI India.
• Professor Dr. Ramesh Ramachandran – Consultant, Tamil Nadu Green Climate Company.
• Dr. R. Venkatesan – Member, State Environment Appraisal Committee.
• Dr. J.K. Patterson Edward – Director, Suganthi Devadason Marine Research Institute.
• Pradeep John (Tamil Nadu Weatherman) – Senior Manager, TNUIFS.

23rd Commonwealth Games – Day 7

• The 23rd Commonwealth Games are currently underway in Glasgow, Scotland. A contingent of 123 Indian athletes is participating, vying for medals. On Day 7 (yesterday), India secured one gold and two silver medals.
• Indian para-athlete Dilip Mahadu Gavit achieved a historic feat by winning the gold medal in the Men's 100m T47 event. He finished the race in just 10.71 seconds, setting a new Commonwealth record and claiming the top spot. 
• With this victory, he became the first athlete to win gold in the Commonwealth para-athletics category. In the same event, another athlete, Mohammed Fasil, won the silver medal by crossing the finish line in 10.83 seconds.
• In the Men's Long Jump final, Indian athlete Murali Sankar made history by leaping 8.09 meters to win the silver medal. This achievement makes him the first Indian athlete to win two medals in the long jump event in the history of the Commonwealth Games.
• India remains in 8th place on the medal tally with a total of 15 medals: 3 gold, 9 silver, and 3 bronze. 

'Vande Mataram' Bill Passed in Lok Sabha

• The bill brings the song 'Vande Mataram' within the ambit of the 'Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971'. Under this Act, insulting national symbols including the Constitution, the National Flag, and the National Anthem is punishable by imprisonment of up to three years.
• If this amendment comes into effect, acts such as insulting or disrupting the 'Vande Mataram' song will also attract penalties of up to three years in prison, a fine, or both.
• Against this backdrop, the 'Prevention of Insults to National Honour (Amendment) Bill, 2026' has now been passed in the Lok Sabha.
