Indian Air Force to Participate in Exercise Pitch Black 2026 in Darwin, Australia
- The Indian Air Force is set to participate in 'Exercise Pitch Black 2026' at the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) base in Darwin, commencing on July 20, 2026. Scheduled for August 7, 2026, in collaboration with the Royal Australian Air Force, this exercise is a premier biennial international air combat drill.
- The exercise is named 'Pitch Black' due to the emphasis placed on night flying operations over the vast, sparsely populated regions of Northern Australia. This edition will see the participation of a massive contingent, marking a significant milestone in the exercise's 45-year history.
- The Indian Air Force contingent comprises highly skilled personnel, including pilots, engineers, technicians, controllers, and subject matter experts. The team will operate the Rafale multi-role fighter aircraft in combat-oriented missions, supported by C-17 Globemaster-III and IL-78 aerial refueling aircraft.
- The exercise offers a valuable opportunity for participating forces to enhance integrated operational capabilities, strengthen force cohesion, and exchange best practices for conducting joint operations in a global context.
- The Indian Air Force has previously participated in the 2018, 2022, and 2024 editions of the exercise, underscoring its commitment to defense cooperation and the strengthening of regional security.
