Three types of ancient drainage systems discovered in a single pit at Keeladi
- Archaeologists have been astonished to discover three distinct types of drainage systems—previously found separately together in a single pit and in a covered state during the ongoing excavations at Keeladi.
- The systems comprise a brick drainage structure, a spiral-shaped pipe drain, and a barrel-shaped pipe drain. Archaeologists consider the discovery of these three systems integrated at a single location to be strong evidence of the advanced urban planning and sewage management practices of the Sangam-era people.
- The design of the drainage outlets as covered systems demonstrates the high priority the people of that era placed on hygiene and public health. The use of pipes of varying shapes within a single drainage network highlights the sophisticated engineering knowledge possessed by Tamils as early as 2,600 years ago.
- To enhance access to high-quality scientific, technological, and intellectual property information, an MoU was signed today between CGPDTM (Office of the Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trade Marks under the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, Ministry of Commerce and Industry) and CSIR-NIScPR (CSIR-National Institute of Science Communication and Policy Research) for participation in the National Knowledge Resource Consortium (NKRC).
- Presentations were delivered highlighting the activities of both organizations and the role of NKRC in providing seamless access to world-class scientific and technical information resources.
- This Memorandum of Understanding marks the beginning of a new chapter of collaboration between the two key organizations. This partnership will strengthen access to global knowledge resources, enhance support for intellectual property rights management, and facilitate informed decision-making through high-quality scientific information.
