Chief Minister Vijay Launches 'Singappenn' Special Task Force Scheme
  • TVK leader Vijay assumed office as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on May 10. At that time, having announced the creation of the 'Singappenn' (Lioness) Special Task Force for the safety of women and children, he signed the relevant file right on the swearing-in ceremony stage.
  • Subsequently, Bhavaniswari was appointed as the Inspector General (IG) of this task force. More than 30 police personnel, including one Superintendent of Police (SP), two Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs), and four Inspectors, have been appointed to the force.
  • Following this, Chief Minister Vijay inaugurated the 'Singappenn' Special Task Force scheme at the Rajarathinam Stadium in Egmore, Chennai.
  • During the event, the Chief Minister inspected the guard of honour presented by women police personnel while travelling in a police vehicle. He then accepted the salute from the 'Singappenn' task force contingent led by SP Shahnaz.
President Approves Appointment of Three More Ministers in Puducherry
  • After the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) retained power in the recently concluded assembly elections in Puducherry, Rangasamy assumed office as Chief Minister for the fifth time.
  • While Namassivayam and Malladi Krishna Rao were sworn in as ministers alongside him, three ministerial posts remained vacant.
  • In this context, President Droupadi Murmu has approved the appointment of MLAs Rajavelu, Sivakozhundhu, and Rajasekaran (BJP)—hailing from Karaikal—as ministers, based on the recommendation of Chief Minister Rangasamy. 
First Meeting of the BRICS Science Centers Consortium for the Current Year
  • As part of India's BRICS presidency for 2026, the Indian National Science Centre hosted the first meeting of the BRICS Science Centers Consortium for 2026.
  • Held via video conference under the theme "Promoting AI for Sustainable Development and Strengthening Global South Cooperation," the meeting saw participation from science centers across ten nations Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Russia, South Africa, Belarus, Nigeria, and Vietnam. 
  • Participants discussed advancing a shared declaration for the development of responsible and equitable Artificial Intelligence. Professor Debasis Mitra, Vice-President (International Affairs) of the Indian National Science Centre, led the meeting and coordinated the deliberations among the science centers.
  • A draft declaration concerning science and AI for sustainable development was reviewed during the meeting. A consensus was reached regarding shared computing infrastructure, collaborative data platforms, and multilingual AI models.
  • Calls were made for the establishment of joint working groups and researcher exchange programs, as well as for the creation of open-resource scientific infrastructures. Recommendations from this meeting will be incorporated into the revised draft declaration.
  • The second in-person meeting of the BRICS Science Centers Consortium is scheduled to be held at IIT Hyderabad on July 22 and 23, 2026.
