D.K. Shivakumar Sworn In as New Chief Minister of Karnataka
  • D.K. Shivakumar was sworn in today as the new Chief Minister of Karnataka. During a ceremony held at the Karnataka Governor's residence, Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot administered the oath of office and the oath of secrecy to D.K. Shivakumar.
  • A total of 13 individuals, including D.K. Shivakumar, took the oath of office. Of these, one has been appointed as Deputy Chief Minister, while the remaining 12 will serve as Cabinet Ministers. Portfolios have not yet been allocated to the ministers.
  • Subsequently, K.H. Muniyappa, K.J. George, M.B. Patil, Ramalinga Reddy, Satish Jarkiholi, Krishna Byre Gowda, Priyank Kharge (son of Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge), U.T. Khader, Eshwar Khandre, Yathindra Siddaramaiah (son of former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah), Byrathi Suresh, and Sharan Prakash Patil were among those sworn in as ministers.
Bangladesh Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman Set to Become President of the UN General Assembly
  • The election for the President of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly was held yesterday (June 2, 2026). In this election for the top post, Bangladesh's Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman and Andreas Kakouris, the Special Representative from Cyprus, vied for the position.
  • Representatives from 190 nations cast their votes in this election, held to select the presiding officer for the Assembly, which comprises 193 member states. In this contest, Bangladesh's Khalilur Rahman secured 99 votes.
  • His opponent, Andreas Kakouris from Cyprus, received 91 votes and was defeated. It is noteworthy that securing 96 votes is essential to attain a majority in this election.
  • In this context, it is significant that Khalilur Rahman has been elected as the President of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, which is set to commence this coming September.
