Kerala Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan flags off free bus travel scheme for women
- The Kerala government had announced that a free bus travel scheme for women on state-run city buses would commence on June 15. Accordingly, Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan flagged off the free travel scheme for women today (June 15) in Ernakulam.
- For now, the scheme is being implemented only on state-run city buses. However, the government had previously stated that the scheme would be extended to other types of buses, including express buses, in the future.
- It has been announced that women and transgender persons can travel on government buses free of charge under this scheme.
- The country's exports increased by 14.66% during the April-May period of the 2026-27 fiscal year. Compared to the total exports (goods and services) of US$ 141.89 billion during the April-May period of 2025-26, the figure is estimated at US$ 162.69 billion for the April-May period of 2026-27. This represents an estimated growth of 14.66%.
- The total value of merchandise exports rose from US$ 76.59 billion in the April-May 2025-26 period to US$ 88.91 billion in the April-May 2026-27 period, recording a growth of 16.09%.
- Engineering goods, organic and inorganic chemicals, electronic goods, and gems and jewellery were the key drivers of merchandise export growth in May 2026.
- Exports of engineering goods increased from US$ 9.89 billion in May 2025 to US$ 12.31 billion in May 2026. Exports of electronic goods rose by 11.62%, increasing from US$ 4.57 billion in May 2025 to US$ 5.10 billion in May 2026.
- India's star archer, 24-year-old Dhiraj Bommadevara, achieved a historic feat by securing the top spot in both the individual and mixed team events. Notably, this marks the first time he has won a gold medal in the individual category at the Archery World Cup.
- In the thrilling individual final held yesterday, Dhiraj faced South Korea's Olympic medalist Lee Woo-seok. Displaying exceptional shooting prowess right from the start, he decisively defeated the Korean archer with a score of 7-3.
