Special 'Kuruvai' Package Scheme Worth Rs 134.83 Crore – Chief Minister Vijay Announces
- Paddy cultivation plays a vital role in ensuring food security and sustaining farmers' livelihoods in Tamil Nadu. Chief Minister Vijay has announced the implementation of a special 'Kuruvai' package scheme worth Rs 134.83 crore for the year 2026.
- The scheme aims to boost paddy production and productivity by encouraging cultivation during the Kuruvai, Kar, and Sornavari seasons across both the Cauvery Delta and non-delta districts.
- This initiative will promote mechanization and improve water management. By facilitating the use of quality seeds and modern technologies, the scheme seeks to expand the area under paddy cultivation and enhance both total production and productivity; ultimately, it will help increase farmers' income and strengthen the state's food security.
- The Union Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation has released the Consumer Price Index (CPI) data for the previous month (May 2026). According to the data, the national retail inflation rate stands at 3.93%.
- Inflation was recorded at 4.25% in rural areas and 3.53% in urban areas. Overall food inflation, based on the Consumer Food Price Index, is calculated at 4.78%; specifically, food inflation stands at 4.85% in rural areas and 4.66% in urban areas.
- Housing inflation at the national level stands at 2.12%. Among key consumer goods, potatoes, peas, and motor cars have shown low inflation rates, whereas silver ornaments, tomatoes, and gold have recorded high inflation.
- At the state level, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh rank as the top three states with the highest inflation. Price data for May was collected from 1,407 urban markets and 1,465 villages, and the resulting figures have been released with complete accuracy.
- The Indian Air Force is procuring 56 C-295 transport aircraft at a cost of approximately ₹21,935 crore. Of these, 40 aircraft are set to be assembled by Tata Advanced Systems in collaboration with Airbus at a manufacturing plant in Vadodara, Gujarat.
- In this context, the Indian Air Force has announced that the first 'C-295' military transport aircraft manufactured in India has successfully completed its maiden test flight.
- A two-day conference of BRICS agriculture ministers began today in Indore, Madhya Pradesh—a city known as the state's commercial capital and acclaimed for its cleanliness.
- Addressing the conference, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan stated that India's food production has reached 376 million tonnes (37.60 crore tonnes) and that the agricultural sector has recorded a growth rate of 4.5 percent.
