• முக்கிய காரணம்: விபத்துகளுக்கு 'அதிவேகம்' (Speeding) தான் மிக முக்கியமான காரணம் (58%). இதற்கு அடுத்தபடியாக கவனக்குறைவாக வாகனம் ஓட்டுதல் (26.3%) உள்ளது.
• நேரம்: அதிகப்படியான விபத்துகள் மாலை 6 மணி முதல் இரவு 9 மணி வரை (20.8%) நிகழ்கின்றன.

நெடுஞ்சாலைகளின் நிலை

• ரயிலில் இருந்து விழுந்து அல்லது தண்டவாளத்தைக் கடக்கும்போது ஏற்படும் விபத்துகளில் மகாராஷ்டிரா (28.9%) முதலிடத்தில் உள்ளது. இது பெரும்பாலும் புறநகர் இரயில்வே நெட்வொர்க்குகளில் (Suburban trains) கூட்ட நெரிசலால் நடப்பதாகக் கூறப்படுகிறது.

• NCRB REPORT ON TRANSPORT ACCIDENT IN INDIA 2024: On average, 546 people lose their lives in traffic-related accidents every day in India. According to the latest report released by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), 199,000 people died in accidents in the year 2024 alone.
• This represents an increase of 0.79 percent compared to 2023 (198,000 deaths).

Economic Impact

• Traffic accidents encompass road accidents, train accidents, and railway crossing accidents. These accidents not only devastate the affected families but also impact the country's Gross Domestic Product (GDP). 
• The socio-economic loss caused by road accidents is estimated to be approximately 3.14 percent of India's GDP.

State-wise Scenario

• In terms of accident-related fatalities, three states—Uttar Pradesh (27,071 deaths), Tamil Nadu (20,390 deaths), and Maharashtra (19,475 deaths)—occupy the top three positions. 
• These three states alone account for a 33.6 percent share of the country's total accident-related deaths.
