India's Sugar Production Rises by 7.7%
- The National Federation of Cooperative Sugar Factories has reported that, for the 2025-26 season to date, India's sugar production has risen by 7.70 percent reaching 27.39 million tonnes driven primarily by increased output in the states of Maharashtra and Karnataka.
- During the corresponding period last year, sugar production stood at 25.43 million tonnes. Based on the latest data released by the National Federation of Cooperative Sugar Factories, production in Maharashtra the country's leading sugar-producing state has surged by 23 percent as of April 15, reaching 9.92 million tonnes. This figure stood at 8.06 million tonnes last year.
- However, in Uttar Pradesh the country's second-largest sugar-producing state sugar production has declined by approximately 2 percent compared to last year, standing at 8.92 million tonnes.
- In Karnataka the country's third-largest sugar-producing state production has also witnessed a 16.70 percent increase, rising from 4.04 million tonnes to 4.71 million tonnes.
