Central Government Grants Permission for Excavations at 8 Sites, Including Keeladi
- The Tamil Nadu Department of Archaeology had submitted a formal request to the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) seeking approval to conduct excavations at eight sites, including the 11th phase at Keeladi, Adichanallur, and Nagapattinam.
- Proposals regarding these projects were submitted in July 2025. The matter was subsequently taken up for discussion during a meeting held in November, which was presided over by the Director General of the Archaeological Survey of India. However, a delay in obtaining the necessary approval persisted for eight months.
- In light of this, the Archaeological Survey of India has now granted permission, acceding to the request made by the Tamil Nadu Department of Archaeology.
- It is noteworthy that, with the addition of these eight new sites, archaeological excavations will now be underway at a total of 13 locations, building upon the five sites where the Tamil Nadu Department of Archaeology is already conducting work.
