Tamil Nadu Government Announces Electricity Subsidy for Restaurants and Tea Shops Amidst National Cylinder Shortage
  • Following a consultation with Chief Minister M.K. Stalin regarding the demand and stock levels of gas cylinders in Tamil Nadu, officials addressed the press at the Secretariat.
  • Amidst a nationwide shortage of gas cylinders, Electricity Board Chairman Radhakrishnan announced that an electricity subsidy of Rs. 2 per unit will be provided to restaurants and tea shops across Tamil Nadu.
  • It was further stated that this concession would remain in effect as long as the restrictions on commercial gas cylinders, as announced by the Central Government, remain in force.
  • Additionally, medium-sized enterprises will be provided with loans—accompanied by a 25% subsidy, capped at a maximum of Rs. 3.05 lakhs—to facilitate the purchase of electrical equipment. 
  • Furthermore, 60,698 industrial units across the state are now permitted to utilize alternative fuels without requiring prior clearance from the Pollution Control Board.
  • Orders have also been issued to allocate an additional 3,228 kiloliters of kerosene under the Public Distribution System (PDS). The announcement also confirmed that farmers in Tamil Nadu may continue to sell their produce without interruption at the 194 'Uzhavar Santhai' (Farmers' Markets) located throughout the state.
