- Minister Anbil Mahesh launched the Government School Ambassador Program. School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi today (30.01.2026) launched the Government School Ambassador Program at the Government Girls' Higher Secondary School in Ashok Nagar, Chennai, by signing the oath of office for the government school ambassadors.
- Following this, he launched the Alumni Mentorship Program and released the 'Vizhudhugal' (Roots) app.
- Jaya Thakur had filed a public interest litigation (PIL) seeking the implementation of the Central Government's menstrual hygiene policy in all government and government-aided schools across the country.
- During the hearing of this petition in the Supreme Court, a bench comprising Justices J.B. Pardiwala and R. Mahadevan stated, "The right to menstrual hygiene is part of the fundamental right to life under Article 21 of the Constitution.
- If the government fails to provide toilets and free sanitary napkins to women, the government will be held responsible. If private schools fail to provide them, their recognition will be revoked."
- They further ordered that "all states and union territories in the country must ensure separate toilets for male and female students in all schools.
- Toilets suitable for persons with disabilities should also be provided." In addition, the court has also sought a compliance report within 3 months regarding this matter.
