First International Textile Industry Summit 360
  • At the 'First International Textile Industry Summit 360' held today in Coimbatore, significant announcements were made regarding massive investments and job opportunities in Tamil Nadu's textile sector.
  • In the presence of Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were signed with 55 textile manufacturing companies. These agreements will bring a total investment of Rs. 912.97 crore. These investments will create direct and indirect employment opportunities for a total of 13,080 people in Tamil Nadu.
  • At the summit, key announcements were made regarding the release of the 'Tamil Nadu New Integrated Textile Policy 2024-25' and subsidy schemes. A scheme is being implemented to provide a 2% interest subsidy (for 7 years) on bank loans taken to modernize 15-year-old spinning machines.
  • A 50% subsidy (maximum Rs. 1.00 lakh) is provided for converting ordinary power looms into automatic rapier looms, and a 20% investment subsidy is provided for purchasing new automatic looms.
  • Approval has been granted to provide an investment subsidy of Rs. 10.92 crore to 3 companies for starting new textile processing units and modernizing existing ones. Awards were presented to companies that excelled in textile exports from Tamil Nadu in the 2024-25 financial year.
  • Companies that secured the first place in 5 categories – small, micro, medium, large, and very large exporters – were awarded a prize money of Rs. 2.00 lakh each and certificates of appreciation.
At the India Global Education Summit 2026 event, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin laid the foundation stone for the Tamil Nadu Knowledge City project
  • Today (Jan. 29), in Chennai, at the Kalaivanar Arangam, Chief Minister Stalin laid the foundation stone for the 'Tamil Nadu Knowledge City' project during the inaugural ceremony of the "India Global Education Summit 2026".
  • Furthermore, in the presence of the Chief Minister, Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and Letters of Intent were signed with universities and educational institutions from various countries to strengthen Tamil Nadu as a global hub for knowledge, innovation, and skill development.
  • Chief Minister Stalin laid the foundation stone for the Tamil Nadu Knowledge City, which is to be established on 872 acres in Sengathukulam, Melmaligaipattu, and Inambakkam villages of Uthukottai taluk in Tiruvallur district.
  • A Letter of Intent was signed with the University of Melbourne to establish an applied research center in the fields of quantum computing and agricultural technology in a 20,000 sq ft area with an investment of Rs. 35 crore over five years in the Knowledge Corridor. This will create 25 direct jobs and 200 indirect jobs.
  • A Letter of Intent was signed with IIT Madras to establish an advanced automotive research center, an alternative research center for electric vehicles, and a testing laboratory in a 40,000 sq ft area with an investment of Rs. 200 crore in the Knowledge Tower. This will create 100 direct jobs and 2,000 indirect jobs.
  • A Letter of Intent was signed with IIT Madras Global to establish a basic and applied research capability facility center in a 20,000 sq ft area to promote advanced skills and innovation.
  • A Letter of Intent was signed with Arksea to establish a research laboratory in the field of carbon capture and sustainability in a 10,000 sq ft area. Letters of intent were signed with Acumen, in partnership with TIDCO, to implement collaborative projects aimed at developing a Knowledge City with an investment of Rs. 120 crore. This will create 150 direct jobs and 2,500 indirect jobs.
  • Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were signed between Guidance Tamil Nadu and leading global educational institutions in the presence of Chief Minister Stalin.
  • At this India Global Education Summit, 5 Letters of Intent were signed and 8 Memorandums of Understanding were executed, totaling an investment value of Rs. 355 crore, which is expected to create 2,255 direct jobs and 9,650 indirect jobs.
India's industrial production grew by 7.8 percent in December
  • According to new data released by the National Statistical Office (NSO), industrial growth in December 2024 was only 3.7 percent. However, in December 2025, it has more than doubled.
  • The manufacturing sector, which grew by 3.7 percent in December of the previous year, has now grown by 8.1 percent. Compared to the 2.7 percent growth of the previous year, mining production has now increased to 6.8 percent. Electricity generation registered a growth of 6.3 percent.
  • In the manufacturing sector, the production of computers and electronic equipment grew by a maximum of 34.9 percent, followed by motor vehicle production, including cars, at 33.5 percent, and the production of other transport equipment at 25.1 percent. Furthermore, the production of basic metals and pharmaceuticals also contributed significantly to the overall growth.
  • The production of infrastructure and construction materials achieved a growth of 12.1 percent, while the production of consumer goods used daily by the public reached a growth of 12.3 percent.
  • The industrial production growth for November was initially estimated at 6.7 percent, but after the availability of complete data, it has now been revised to 7.2 percent.
  • Although the growth was higher in December, the overall growth for this financial year (April to December) stands at 3.9 percent. It is noteworthy that this is slightly lower than the 4.1 percent recorded during the same period last year.
