Prithvi missiles successfully tested off the Odisha coast
- The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully test-fired two 'Prithvi' missiles in quick succession from a single launch pad off the Odisha coast on December 31, 2025, at approximately 10:30 AM.
- This flight test was conducted as part of user evaluation trials. Monitoring sensors at the Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Chandipur confirmed that both missiles followed their planned trajectory and hit all targets.
- The final impact events of the missiles were confirmed by telemetry systems on board ships positioned near the target areas in the sea. 'Prithvi' is an indigenously developed, solid-fueled quasi-ballistic missile.
- It uses state-of-the-art guidance and navigation technology to ensure high-precision strikes. The missile is capable of carrying various types of warheads against different targets.
- This missile has been developed with the collaboration of Research Centre Imarat (RCI) in Hyderabad, and other DRDO laboratories including Defence Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL), Advanced Systems Laboratory (ASL), Armament Research and Development Establishment (ARDE), High Energy Materials Research Laboratory (HEMRL), Defence Metallurgical Research Laboratory (DMRL), Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory (TBRL), Research & Development Establishment (Engineers) and Integrated Test Range (ITR).
- Furthermore, it involves the contribution of development and production partners Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) and Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), and other Indian industries. For these tests, the systems were integrated by the aforementioned two production partners.
- These tests were witnessed by senior DRDO scientists, representatives from the Indian Air Force and the Indian Army, and industry representatives.
