UN resolution demanding Israel's withdrawal from the Golan Heights passed
- In 1976, a 6-day war was fought between Arab countries and Israel. Israel was victorious in this war, which was fought between Israel on one side and the Arab countries of Egypt, Syria, Jordan and Iraq on the other.
- At that time, Israel captured East Jerusalem from Jordan, the Golan Heights from Syria, the Sinai Peninsula and the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, etc. from Egypt. As a result of this war, the political map of the Middle East changed completely. Moreover, its consequences are still a major cause of tensions in the region today.
- In this situation, the UN resolution demanding Israel's withdrawal from the Golan Heights was passed today (03-12-25). Egypt brought a resolution against Israel in the UN Assembly meeting held today.
- In that resolution, Israel's occupation of the Syrian Golan is illegal. Therefore, it was stated that Israel should leave the area. Following that, a debate was held on the resolution and a vote was held. In it, 123 countries, including India, voted in favor.
- 7 countries voted against, and 43 countries abstained from participating in the vote. At the end of the vote, the resolution brought by Egypt had a majority and was passed in the UN Assembly.
