Surya Kant appointed as the 53rd Chief Justice of the Supreme Court
- With the term of Chief Justice P.R. Kawai ending on November 23, Justice P.R. Kawai had recommended the name of Surya Kant, the second senior-most judge of the Supreme Court.
- President Draupadi Murmu has issued an order accepting the recommendation of Chief Justice P.R. Kawai. This was confirmed by Union Law and Justice Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal.
- In this situation, Surya Kant will take oath as the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court in the presence of President Draupadi Murmu on November 24. Surya Kant, the 53rd Chief Justice, will hold office till February 9, 2027.
