Cyclone Montha formed in the southeast Bay of Bengal
  • As the northeast monsoon has begun in Tamil Nadu, a low-pressure area has formed in the southwest Bay of Bengal, and rains are continuing in various districts of Tamil Nadu.
  • In this situation, due to the atmospheric circulation prevailing in the southeast Bay of Bengal and adjacent areas, a low-pressure area formed in the southeast Bay of Bengal at 05.30 am today (24.10.2025) and is prevailing in the same areas at 08.30 am today.
  • At the same time, if the low-pressure area in the Bay of Bengal turns into a storm, it will be named Montha, as recommended by Thailand. The India Meteorological Department has released forecast images that show the possibility of a continued movement of the storm if it develops.
  • The depression has strengthened in the southeast Bay of Bengal, where it may touch the Andaman Sea. The direction of its continued movement is expected to be from the west-northwest direction, especially towards the southeast towards Chennai.
  • Since it is likely to move from the west-northwest direction, it is expected that the storm will come at least 200 km close to Chennai, but it is not confirmed. In Thai, 'Montha' is a word that means charm.
