Central Government releases over Rs. 730 crore 15th Finance Commission grants to strengthen rural local bodies in Gujarat and Haryana
  • The Central Government has released 15th Finance Commission grants for the financial year 2025-26 to strengthen rural local bodies in Gujarat and Haryana. 
  • In Gujarat, the second tranche of all-purpose grants worth Rs. 522.20 crore for the financial year 2024-25 has been released to 38 district panchayats, 247 eligible block panchayats and 14,547 eligible village panchayats.
  • In addition, the portion of all-purpose grants worth Rs. 13.5989 crore held in the first tranche of all-purpose grants for the financial year 2024-25 has been released to 6 eligible district panchayats, 5 block panchayats and 78 village panchayats.
  • For Haryana, the central government has released the first installment of Rs. 195.129 crore in grants for all uses for the financial year 2025-26. This has been released to 18 district panchayats, 134 eligible block panchayats and 6,164 village panchayats.
Minerals agreement between US and Australia
  • Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese is on a state visit to the United States. During this visit, he met US President Donald Trump at the White House yesterday (October 20).
  • In this context, President Trump and Prime Minister Albanese signed a rare earth minerals agreement worth 8.5 billion US dollars (Rs. 75 thousand crores) between Australia and the United States.
  • Based on this agreement, it is said that the US and Australian governments will invest 1 billion US dollars each in rare earth mining and its processing projects for the next 6 months. This new agreement was made as an alternative to the Chinese government's previous restrictions on the export of rare earth minerals.
  • Furthermore, it is noteworthy that President Trump has announced that an additional 100 percent tariff will be imposed on goods imported from China starting next November in response to the Chinese government's actions.
