Tamil Nadu government signs MoU with Eco Fuel Systems to convert 850 diesel buses to CNG
- As part of its efforts to make public transport environmentally friendly, the Tamil Nadu government has signed a MoU with Mumbai-based Eco Fuel Systems to convert 850 diesel buses to CNG buses.
- The work will be completed in the next 12 months. With this agreement, Eco Fuel has cemented its leadership in the field of vehicle conversion to CNG.
- The Ministry of Defence has signed an agreement for procurement of 97 light combat aircraft from Hindustan Aeronautical Corporation. This includes 68 MK1A fighter jets and 29 two-seater fighter jets worth Rs 62,370 crore for the Indian Air Force.
- The agreement was signed on 25th of this month. The delivery of these light combat aircraft will begin in 2027-28 and the handover of all the fighter jets to the Air Force will be completed within a period of 6 years, the ministry said in a press release.
- The aircraft will be designed with 64 per cent indigenous components and 67 additional components, the ministry said. These fighter jets are equipped with indigenously designed cutting-edge technologies, radar and safety features to strengthen India's self-reliant operations.
- More than 105 Indian companies are participating in this project and it is expected to generate 11,750 direct and indirect jobs per year.
- The indigenous Agni missiles, designed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), have been in service since 2011. DRDO is continuously designing the next generation missiles.
- Agni-Prime is one of the most important intercontinental ballistic missiles in India. These missiles have a range of up to 5,000 km. In this context, the Agni-Prime missile, which can destroy targets at a distance of up to 2,000 km, was first test-fired by DRDO on a specially developed train last night.
- The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi today approved the increase in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education seats. The 3rd phase of the Central Government's financial assistance scheme has been approved to increase 5,000 postgraduate medical education seats in state and central government medical colleges, postgraduate educational institutions and government hospitals and to increase 5,023 undergraduate medical education seats in government medical colleges.
- A total of Rs. 15,034.50 crore has been allocated for these two schemes for the period 2025-26 to 2028-29. Of this, the Central Government's contribution will be Rs. 10,303.20 crore and the State Government's contribution will be Rs. 4,731.30 crore.
- This will increase the number of doctors and medical specialists in the country and improve the quality of health through their contribution. This will especially benefit remote areas. There is an opportunity to get more opportunities for students to study in medical colleges in India, improve the quality of medical education and training at par with global standards, and make India a better place for healthcare services through adequate doctors and medical specialists and earn foreign exchange.
- During the 15th Finance Commission cycle from 2021-22 to 2025-26, an outlay of Rs. The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi today approved the Science and Industrial Research Scheme on Skill Development and Human Resource Development with an allocation of Rs. 2277.397 crore.
- The scheme, implemented by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, will cover all Research and Development Institutions, National Laboratories, Institutes of National Importance and Universities across the country.
- This initiative will provide a comprehensive platform to aspiring young researchers who want to work in universities, industrial National Research and Development Laboratories, educational institutions etc. The scheme, which will be mentored by eminent scientists and professors, will promote Science, Technology, Engineering, Medicine and Mathematical Sciences.
- The Union Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, today approved construction of four-laning highway in Sahebganj-Areraj-Petia section of National Highway-139W in Bihar at a cost of Rs. 3,822.31 crore, covering a distance of 78.942 km, in a public-private partnership.
- The four-laning green corridor project is a project to improve traffic between the state capital Patna and the North Bihar districts of Vaishali, Saran, Siwan, Gopalganj, Muzaffarpur, East Champaran and West Champaran up to the India-Nepal border.
- The project will facilitate long-distance freight transport. The project will help in improving access to key infrastructure and regional economic development by improving transportation to agricultural zones, industrial areas, and border trade routes.
- The project will generate 14.22 lakh man-days of direct employment and 17.69 lakh man-days of indirect employment.
