Tamil Nadu government signs MoU with Kochi Shipyard and Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders
- MoUs have been signed for setting up shipyards in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu. The MoU for this was signed by the SIPCOT management and the V.O. Chidambaranar Port Trust a few weeks ago.
- “Kochi Shipyard will invest Rs. 15,000 crore to set up a world-class commercial shipyard. In the first phase, over 10,000 jobs (4,000 direct and 6,000 indirect) will be created.
- Masakain Dock Shipbuilders will set up another world-class commercial shipyard with an investment of Rs. 15,000 crore. It will create employment for over 45,000 people (5,000 direct and 40,000 indirect).
- These MoUs will be a major step in enhancing India’s maritime infrastructure and technological capabilities. These two mega projects together will help Tamil Nadu emerge as a global hub for shipbuilding and maritime innovation.
