Asian Shooting Championships 2025 - Sift Kaur Samra wins double gold
  • The Asian Shooting Championships are underway in Shymkent, Kazakhstan. In the women's 50m Rifle 3 Positions final, India's Sift Kaur Samra competed against China's Yang Yujie.
  • In this, Sift Kaur Samra won the gold medal with a score of 459.2 points. Yang Yujie won the silver medal with 458.8 points. Japan's Nobata Misaki won the bronze medal with 448.2 points.
  • In the women's 50m Rifle 3 Positions team event, the Indian team consisting of Sift Kaur Samra, Anjum Moudgil and Ashi Sowski won the gold medal with a score of 1,753 points.
Cabinet approves submission of bid for hosting 2030 Commonwealth Games
  • The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has approved the proposal of the Sports Ministry to submit a bid for hosting the 2030 Commonwealth Games.
  • If the bid is accepted, the Union Cabinet has approved signing of an agreement with the Government of Gujarat to host the Games with necessary formalities from the concerned Ministries, Departments and Authorities and providing necessary grant assistance to the Government of Gujarat.
  • Athletes from 72 countries will participate in the Commonwealth Games. Local businesses will benefit and earn more revenue as a large number of athletes, coaches, technical officials, tourists, media persons, etc. will visit India during the Games.

Cabinet approves restructuring of Pradhan Mantri SVANITHI scheme and extension of loan tenure
  • The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi today (27.08.2025) has approved the restructuring of the loan tenure of the Prime Minister's Roadside Vendors Self-Reliance Fund (Pradhan Mantri SVANITHI) scheme beyond 31.12.2024 and extension of the loan tenure up to 31 March 2030.
  • The total allocation for this scheme is Rs. 7,332 crore. The restructured scheme will benefit 1.15 crore people, including 50 lakh new beneficiaries.
  • The implementation of this scheme is the joint responsibility of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development and the Department of Financial Services, Ministry of Finance. Further, the Department of Financial Services is responsible for disbursing loans through banks/financial institutions.
  • The salient features of the restructured scheme include enhanced loan amount in the first and second installments, These include issuance of UPI-linked RuPay credit card, digital cashback offers on retail and wholesale transactions.
Cabinet approves four railway projects benefiting Karnataka, Telangana, Bihar, Assam, and a new railway line to connect remote areas of Kutch-Chin in Gujarat
  • The Union Cabinet, chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has approved a total of Rs 12,328 crore for four projects of the Ministry of Railways.
  • These projects include Deshpalpur-Hajibir-Luna and Vayoor-Lakhpat new lines, Secunderabad (Sanatnagar)- Wadi 3rd and 4th lines, Bhagalpur-Jamalpur 3rd line & Farging - New Tinsukia double track.
  • The above projects aim to ensure seamless and fast movement of both passengers and freight.
  • These projects will improve travel comfort and reduce the cost of freight transport. These projects will It will generate about 251 lakh man-days of direct employment during construction.
  • The proposed new line in Gujarat will provide connectivity to the remote area of ​​Kutch region. The completion time of the project is 3 years.
  • It will not only boost tourism in the state of Gujarat but also help in transportation of salt, cement, coal etc. It will also add 13 new railway stations. This will benefit 866 villages and about 16 lakh people.
