India's first-ever Earth Observation Satellite Cluster gets approval
- For the first time in the history of Indian space, an Earth Observation Satellite Cluster is planned. After a thorough examination of the three consortiums that participated in the auction held for this, the National Space Promotion and Accreditation Centre of India on August 12 gave approval to the consortium led by Pixel Space India, based in Bangalore.
- The consortium includes Pixel Space India, Bearsight Space, Softsure Analytics India and Dhruva Space. Under this project, which will be implemented in a public-private partnership, an investment of Rs. 1,200 crore is planned in the next 5 years. The Earth Observation Satellite Cluster consists of 12 satellites. The entire responsibility of designing, building and operating it has been given to the consortium led by Pixel Space India.
- The Earth observation satellite constellation will be equipped with parachromatic, multispectral, hyperspectral, and microwave synthetic aperture radar sensors. It will provide analytical data and value-added services for weather change monitoring, disaster management, agriculture, infrastructure, maritime surveillance, national security, urban planning, etc. It will also provide geospatial intelligence data that is needed on a global scale.
- By implementing this project, it will be possible to ensure high-resolution and indigenous data. Moreover, there will be no need to depend on foreign countries for such data. In addition, India will be among the countries that are ensuring data sovereignty and offering space-based solutions, Inspace said.
