Tamil Nadu selected as the best state in organ donation
  • Tamil Nadu has been a guide for India in organ donation. The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu announced that the body of a brain-dead organ donor will be honored by the state on September 23, 2023. Since this announcement was made, 479 people have donated their organs and been honored by the state.
  • Last year alone, 268 people donated organs, making Tamil Nadu the leading state in India in saving thousands of lives. Appreciating the excellent performance of the Tamil Nadu government in organ donation, Tamil Nadu was selected as the best state in India in organ donation at the "15th Indian Organ Donation Day 2025" program held on behalf of the Union Government in New Delhi, and the award for the year 2024 was presented by the Union Health Minister Mr. J.P. Natta and the Member Secretary of the Tamil Nadu Organ Transplant Commission Mr. Gopalakrishnan.
  • Also, at the event held in New Delhi, a team led by Dr. Theranirajan, former Principal of Madras Medical College and Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital, Chennai (Dr. Gomathi Karmegam, Dr. Jayanthi Mohanasundaram, Dr. Raghavendran) was awarded the Best Team Caring for Brain Dead Patients for their outstanding contribution in the field of organ donation and organ transplant surgery. The award was presented to the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister by the Minister of Health and Public Welfare, Mr. M. Subramanian and he was congratulated.
Chief Minister M.K. Stalin launched the Thayumanavar scheme in Chennai
  • Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin launched the "Chairman's Thayumanavar Scheme" in Chennai on August 12 today.
  • This scheme has been introduced with the aim of distributing ration items directly to the homes of senior citizens above 70 years of age and differently-abled family card holders. In this event held in Thandaiyarpet, Gopal Nagar, Chennai, the Chief Minister personally visited the house of a differently-abled person and distributed ration items and formally launched the project.
Decision to remove Justice Yashwant Verma - Formation of a 3-member investigation committee
  • Delhi High Court Justice Yashwant Verma's house was burnt during a fire on March 14, and lakhs of rupees were recovered from his house. An internal investigation committee headed by former Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna was formed in this matter and the committee conducted an investigation and submitted a report. The investigation confirmed that there was money in the judge's house. The judge has been removed from service.
  • The Supreme Court has also dismissed the case filed by Justice Yashwant Verma against the allegations against him. Meanwhile, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla accepted a resolution signed by 146 MPs demanding the removal of Justice Yashwant Verma.
  • He announced the formation of a three-member committee comprising Supreme Court Justice Arvind Kumar, Madras High Court Chief Justice Manindra Mohan Srivastava, and Karnataka High Court senior advocate P.V. Acharya to investigate the allegations against Justice Verma.
Union Cabinet approves 11.165 km long Lucknow Metro Rail Project with 12 Metro Stations
  • The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has approved Phase 1B of Lucknow Metro Rail Project in Uttar Pradesh. The route will be constructed with 12 stations with 7 underground and 5 elevated stations over a distance of 11.165 km. When Phase 1B becomes operational, Lucknow will have a metro rail network of 34 km.
  • Phase 1B of Lucknow Metro Rail Project marks a significant step forward in the infrastructural development of the city. Phase 1B is a major expansion of the metro rail network in the city.
  • Phase 1B of Lucknow Metro Project will have a new metro line of about 11.165 km. It will improve public transport in the oldest and most populated areas of the city.
  • The phase aims to connect key areas including commercial hubs like Aminabad, Yahiyaganj, Pandeganj, Chowk, important healthcare facilities like King George Medical University (Medical College), major tourist attractions like Bada Imambara, Chota Imambara, Pul Pulaya, Clock Tower, Rumi Darwaza, places known for the city’s ancient and historic food culture.
Union Cabinet approves setting up of semiconductor manufacturing units worth Rs. 4600 crore in Odisha, Punjab, Andhra Pradesh
  • The Union Cabinet, chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has approved four more semiconductor projects under the Indian Semiconductor Mission.
  • The semiconductor ecosystem in India is growing. Six approved projects are already being implemented in various stages. Four proposals were approved today - Sixchem, Continental Devices India Private Limited (CDIL), 3D Glass Solutions and Advance System-in-Package Technologies.
  • The four approved projects will set up semiconductor manufacturing facilities with a total investment of about Rs. 4,600 crore. It is expected to generate employment for 2034 skilled professionals. This will boost the electronics manufacturing ecosystem. 
  • Due to this, there will be an opportunity to create various indirect jobs. With these four approvals today, the number of projects approved under the Semiconductor India Mission has increased to 10. These have been undertaken in 6 states at an investment of about Rs. 1.60 lakh crore.
  • With the increasing demand for semiconductors in telecom, automotive, data centers, consumer electronics and industrial electronics, these four newly approved semiconductor projects will significantly contribute to making India self-reliant.
Union Cabinet approves 700 MW Hydropower Project in Shi Yomi District of Arunachal Pradesh at a cost of Rs. 8146 crore
  • The Union Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, today (12 August 2025) has approved the construction of 700 MW Hydropower Project in Shi Yomi District of Arunachal Pradesh at a cost of Rs. 8146 crore. The project is scheduled to be completed in 72 months.
  • The project will be executed in a joint venture between Eastern Electric Power Corporation and the Government of Arunachal Pradesh. Apart from the Central Government’s share of equity of Rs. 436.13 crore, Rs. 458.79 crore will be provided for construction of roads and bridges in the areas where the power will be supplied.
