Prime Minister Modi inaugurated a new terminal at Thoothukudi airport
- Prime Minister Modi, who was on an official visit to the Maldives, returned home after completing his trip successfully.
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi took off from the Maldives by plane and reached Thoothukudi at around 8 pm.
- He arrived in Thoothukudi by private flight and was given a rousing welcome at the airport.
- Governor R.N. Ravi, Union Ministers Murugan and Ram Mohan Naidu welcomed him.
- He laid the foundation stone for various welfare projects in Thoothukudi.
- Prime Minister Modi inaugurated and inspected the new terminal building built at a cost of Rs. 452 crore at Thoothukudi airport.
India, Maldives sign MoU to enhance bilateral cooperation in fisheries and aquaculture
- The Fisheries Department under the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying and the Ministry of Fisheries and Ocean Resources of Maldives have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance bilateral cooperation in fisheries and aquaculture.
- The MoU is one of the 6 MoUs exchanged between India and Maldives during the State visit of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on July 25, 2025.
- The objective of the cooperation is to promote aquaculture and deep-sea fishing, strengthen aquaculture and sustainable resource management, develop fisheries-based eco-tourism and support innovative and scientific research in both countries.
- Key areas of cooperation outlined in this MoU include value chain development, mariculture advancement, trade facilitation and capacity building in the fisheries sector.
- As part of this initiative, Maldives will increase its fish processing capabilities by investing in cold storage infrastructure and strengthening the aquaculture sector through hatchery development, improved production capacity and diversification of farmed species.
