President's rule extended in Manipur for another 6 months
- Chief Minister of the northeastern state of Manipur, Bhairon Singh, resigned on February 9 following communal violence.
- President's rule was imposed after a prolonged delay in deciding on a new chief minister.
- In this situation, Union Home Minister Amit Shah will introduce a resolution in the Rajya Sabha today (July 25) to extend President's rule in Manipur for another six months.
- It has been reported that this will come into effect from August 13 next month. It will be extended till February 13, 2026, after the approval of Parliament, according to reports.
- According to Article 356(3) of the Constitution, President's rule imposed by the Governor usually lasts for 6 months.
- Moreover, it can be extended every six months up to 3 years with the approval of Parliament.
- Earlier, clashes between the Meitei and Kuki communities have been ongoing in Manipur since May 2023, in which more than 250 people have been killed so far.
First hydrogen-powered train engine test success
- Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said that a hydrogen-powered train engine has been developed and successfully tested at the ICF factory.
- The Central Railways Department has allocated more than Rs. 2,000 crore for the production of hydrogen-powered train engines.
- Following this, the work of manufacturing hydrogen train engines at the ICF in Perambur, Chennai began in 2024.
- Now the work of manufacturing hydrogen train engines has been completed and tested.
- For the first time in the country, it has been announced that these hydrogen trains will run between Jind railway station and Sonipat railway station in the Northern Railway Division.
