Southwest monsoon begins in Tamil Nadu and Kerala
- The Meteorological Department had said that the monsoon began today (May 24) 8 days earlier than the usual onset of the southwest monsoon in Kerala on June 1. It was noted that the most advanced onset of the monsoon in the last 25 years was on May 23 in 2009.
- Following Kerala, the southwest monsoon was expected to begin in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka in a day or two, but the monsoon has begun in some parts of Tamil Nadu today.
- The 10th NITI Aayog meeting chaired by Prime Minister Modi began at Bharat Mandapam in Delhi. Chief Minister Stalin, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Karnataka Chief Minister Rangasamy, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and other state Chief Ministers participated in the NITI Aayog meeting.
- The meeting will discuss development projects, infrastructure development, etc. The meeting was held in line with Prime Minister Modi's commitment to 'Team India' to build a developed India by integrating the states.
- Discussions were also held on the challenges facing the country and building a developed India with the states as key partners. Chief Minister Stalin, who skipped the meeting last year, is participating in the current meeting.
