Agreement between Tamil Nadu Government and Dixon Technologies Company in the presence of the Chief Minister M.K. Stalin
  • In the presence of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed today (9.4.2025) at the Secretariat, on behalf of the Department of Industries, Investment Promotion and Commerce, with Dixon Technologies Limited, Kanchipuram District, at the Indospace Industrial Park located in Oragadam, to establish an electronic manufacturing services project including laptops and integrated computers, providing employment to 5,000 people with an investment of Rs. 1,000 crore.
Repo rate cut by 0.25% - Reserve Bank of India
  • The Reserve Bank of India's monetary policy meeting for the financial year 2025-26 began at 10 am today in Mumbai. The monetary policy decision was announced by the Reserve Bank Governor in the meeting.
  • The Reserve Bank of India has lowered its GDP growth forecast for fiscal 2026 to 6.5 percent from its previous estimate of 6.7 percent.
  • In this context, in the last policy meeting held in February, the repo rate was reduced by 25 basis points from 6.5 percent after 5 years. Moreover, Reserve Bank Governor Sanjay Malhotra has announced that it will be reduced again by 0.25 percent in a period of 2 months.
Union Cabinet approves purchase of 26 Rafale Marine Jets from France
  • The Cabinet Committee on Defence has approved a $7 billion deal for the purchase of 26 Rafale Marine Jets from France for the Indian Navy.
  • Of the 26 aircraft, 22 are single-seat jets that can be operated from aircraft carriers. The other four are double-seat trainers. The deal is an agreement between the two governments.
Union Cabinet approves construction of 6-laning Zirakpur Bypass in Punjab and Haryana at an estimated cost of Rs. 1878.31 crore
  • The Union Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has approved the construction of 6-laning Zirakpur Bypass, covering a length of 19.2 km, starting from the junction of National Highway No. 7 (Zirakpur-Patiala) to the junction of National Highway No. 5 (Zirakpur-Parwanoo), in the states of Punjab and Haryana, and measures to support the development of integrated transport infrastructure under the Prime Minister's National Rapid Action Plan.
  • The total capital estimate for the project is Rs. 1878.31 crore. The Zirakpur Bypass starts from the junction of National Highway No. 7 (Chandigarh-Bathinda) in Zirakpur and ends with National Highway No. 5 (Zirakpur-Parwanoo) in Panchkula, Haryana.
Union Cabinet approves doubling of Tirupati-Bhakala-Katpadi single-track railway line (104 km) in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu at a cost of Rs. 1,332 crore
  • The Union Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Modi, approved the conversion of Tirupati – Bakala – Katpadi single-track railway line (104 km) in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu into double-track railway line at a cost of Rs. 1,332 crore. 
  • The project will provide improved rail capacity and operational efficiency and service reliability to Indian Railways. The multi-tracking project will ease operations and reduce congestion.
Cabinet approves Catchment Area Development and Modernization of Water Management as a Sub-Scheme of Pradhan Mantri Agriculture Irrigation Scheme for the period 2025-2026
  • The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi today (09.04.2025) approved the Catchment Area Development and Modernization of Water Management as a Sub-Scheme of Pradhan Mantri Agriculture Irrigation Scheme (Krishi Sinhaai) for the period 2025-2026.
  • The objective of the scheme is to modernize the irrigation water supply infrastructure to provide irrigation water in a specific set from existing canals or other sources. Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) and Internet of Things technology will be used for water accounting and water management. 
  • This will increase water use efficiency at the farm level. The scheme will increase agricultural production and productivity. This will increase the income of farmers.
