Rs. 2,385 crore deal with BHEL for procurement of electronic warfare equipment and equipment for Mi-17V5 helicopters
- The Union Ministry of Defence has signed a contract with Bharat Electronics, Bengaluru, for procurement of electronic warfare equipment and equipment required for modernisation of aircraft for the Indian Air Force and their installation in Mi-17V5 helicopters.
- The contract worth Rs 2,385.36 crore for procurement of defence equipment manufactured under the indigenously designed and manufactured programme was signed in New Delhi on 7 April 2025 in the presence of Defence Secretary Shri Rajesh Kumar Singh.
- These state-of-the-art electronic warfare equipment will help improve the performance of the helicopters in difficult conditions. Most of the spare parts will be procured from indigenous manufacturers.
- This project will encourage Indian electronics and MSMEs to manufacture them. The procurement of spare parts for the Mi-17 V5 helicopter is a significant step towards improving the capabilities of indigenous electronic warfare aircraft. This will promote the Make in India initiative and help the country achieve self-reliance.
