- Chief Minister M.K. Stalin launched the Kalaignar Craft Scheme, which the state government has brought as an alternative to the Central Government scheme, in Kundrathur, near Chennai, on Saturday (April 19).

Stalin announced a new scheme called ‘Kalaigna Craft Scheme’ that includes all artisans without social discrimination as an alternative.
- The Tamil Nadu government announced that the beneficiary should do the same profession as his parents under the Central Government scheme, and that artisans with 5 years of experience in the Kalaignar Craft Scheme can choose any profession.
- While the minimum age limit in the Central Government scheme is 18, in the State Government scheme it has been set at 35 years so as not to affect the higher education of the youth.
- While loans are provided for 18 types of handicrafts without investment subsidy in the Vishwakarma scheme, it has been announced that loans will be provided for 25 types of industries with 25 percent investment subsidy in the Tamil Nadu government scheme.
- While the loan in the Central Government scheme is provided in 2 installments, the loan in the State Government scheme is to be provided in a single installment.
