Union Irrigation and Power Board Awards 2024
- Union Irrigation and Power Board Day is celebrated annually in Delhi and awards are presented. Accordingly, the Union Irrigation and Power Board invited applications for the 2024 awards in the water resources department in various categories.
- Tamil Nadu Water Resources Department applied for the awards. The Union Irrigation and Power Board has selected the Tamil Nadu Water Resources Department to present the awards for the best performance for the year 2024.
- Accordingly, the Tamil Nadu Water Resources Department has been awarded in the categories of Implementation of Participatory Irrigation Management Scheme, Excellence in Integrated Water Resources Management - Tamil Nadu Irrigated Agriculture Modernization Project implemented with World Bank funding, and the best water resource project of Salem district, Sarabanga basin, diverting flood surplus water from Mettur dam to dry lakes through irrigation.
- Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that the Modi government is a farmer-friendly government and its priority and commitment is to provide remunerative prices to farmers and ensure fair prices. Earlier, 40% export duty was imposed on onion.
- But when the prices of onion started falling and farmers started getting lower prices, the government decided to reduce the export duty on onion from 40% to 20%, Shri Chouhan said. Today, the government has decided to completely remove the 20% export duty.
