Lead found for the first time in Vembakottai excavations
  • The 3rd phase of excavations has been underway since June 18 in the Vijayakarishalkulam Mettukadu area near Vembakottai in Virudhunagar district.
  • More than 3,500 archaeological objects, including gold coins, copper coins, clay figurines, chess pieces, glass beads, round chips, and conch bracelets, have been discovered so far in the 3rd phase of excavations.
  • In this context, a decorated medallion made of hot clay, iron, and lead were found during the excavations held today (March 19). A decorated medallion made of hot clay and iron were found at a depth of 87 centimeters. It is also noteworthy that lead was found for the first time at a depth of 102 centimeters.

  • The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has approved construction of 6-lane controlled access greenfield national highway from Jawaharlal Nehru Port (Bhakot) to Chowk, Maharashtra (29.219 km). The project will be constructed on build, operate and transfer basis at a capital cost of ₹ 4500.62 crore.
  • One of the key focus areas of Integrated Infrastructure Planning under the Prime Minister’s Quick Power National Master Plan is to improve road connectivity to major and minor ports in India. With the increasing container traffic at Jawaharlal Nehru Port and the development of Navi Mumbai International Airport, there is a need to improve the National Highway connectivity in the region.
  • The new 6-lane Green Corridor will lead to better port connectivity. It will also help in safe and efficient freight movement. This project will open new avenues for prosperity in the growing regions of Mumbai, Pune and surrounding areas.
Union Cabinet approves Revised National Plan for Dairy Development
  • The Union Cabinet, chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, today approved the Revised National Plan for Dairy Development (NPDD).
  • The revised NPDD, a scheme of the Union Government, has been enhanced by an additional Rs 1000 crore, taking the total allocation for the Fifteenth Finance Commission period (2021-22 to 2025-26) to ₹2790 crore.
  • The initiative focuses on modernising and expanding the dairy infrastructure. This will ensure sustainable growth and productivity of the sector. The revised NPDT will create infrastructure for milk procurement, processing capacity, and better quality control, thereby giving a boost to the dairy sector.
  • This will help farmers get better access to markets, ensure better prices through value addition, improve supply chain efficiency, lead to higher incomes, and greater rural development.
Cabinet approves revised National Livestock Mission with enhanced allocation for 2024-25 and 2025-26
  • The Union Cabinet, chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, today approved the revised National Livestock Mission (Rashtriya Gokul Mission) to promote the development of the livestock sector.
  • The scheme is being implemented with an additional allocation of Rs. 1000 crore during the Fifteenth Finance Commission period from 2021-22 to 2025-26, i.e., a total allocation of Rs. 3400 crore. Two new activities have been included in this.
  • One-time grant of 35% of the capital cost of setting up of goat breeding centres to processing agencies to create 30 residential facilities with a total of 15,000 goats
  • Encourage farmers to purchase goats (young cows without calving) of high genetic quality, farmers to purchase from dairy unions/financial institutions/banks Providing 3% interest subsidy on loan.
  • The revised National Livestock (Rashtriya Gokul) Mission has been approved in the 15th Finance Commission cycle (2021-22 to 2025-26) with an allocation of ₹3400 crore.
Cabinet approves setting up of new brownfield ammonia-urea complex at Namrup-4 Fertilizer Plant
  • The Union Cabinet, chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has approved the proposal for setting up of a new brownfield ammonia-urea complex with a capacity of 12.7 lakh metric tonnes of urea per annum at the Brahmaputra Valley Fertilizer Corporation complex in Assam at a cost of Rs. 10,601.40 crore. It is to be set up on a debt-equity ratio of 70:30 under the New Investment Policy 2012. The proposed implementation period for Namrup-4 is 48 months.
  • The debt-equity ratio will be 40% for the Government of Assam, 11% for Brahmaputra Valley Fertilizer Corporation, 13% for Hindustan Urg & Chemicals Corporation, 18% for National Fertilizer Corporation and 18% for Indian Oil Corporation.
  • The project will increase urea production capacity domestically, especially in the North-East. It will meet the growing demand for urea fertilizers in the North-East, Bihar, West Bengal, Eastern Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand.
Cabinet approves incentive scheme for promoting low-value transactions through BHIM
  • The Union Cabinet, chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has approved the scheme for promoting low-value transactions through BHIM in the current financial year.
  • Accordingly, the incentive scheme will be implemented at an estimated cost of Rs 1,500 crore during the period from 01.04.2024 to 31.03.2025.
  • This scheme is applicable only to small merchants for cash transactions made through the BHIM app up to Rs 2000. An incentive of 0.15% will be provided for each cash transaction as an incentive.
