Tamil Nadu budget to use Tamil script 'ரூ' instead of Devanagari '₹'
- The state budget of the Tamil Nadu government will be presented on the 14th. State Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu will present the budget for the financial year 2025-2026 in the assembly tomorrow.
- In this context, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has released the budget for the budget. In it, the Tamil script 'ரூ' has been released instead of the Devanagari script '₹', which represents the rupee.
- The sixth meeting of the State Planning Committee was held today (13.03.2025) at the Secretariat under the chairmanship of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and Chairman of the State Planning Committee M.K. Stalin.
- In this meeting, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu released three research papers prepared by the State Planning Committee, namely "Impact of the Chief Minister's Breakfast Scheme on Government Primary School Students - Final Report", "Study on the Practices of Class 10 and 12 Public Examinations" and "Study on the Livelihood of Migrant Workers in Chennai and its Surrounding Areas".
- ''Retail inflation based on the Consumer Price Index was 4.26 percent in January 2024 and 5.09 percent in February. Retail inflation based on the Consumer Price Index has remained within the range announced by the Reserve Bank of India since November 2024.
- The Reserve Bank has set the country's retail inflation to be within the range of 2 - 6 percent. Compared to January 2025, food inflation fell by 222 points in February. This is the lowest level of food inflation since the decline in May 2023.
- In the year-on-year retail inflation, ginger (-35.81%), cumin (-28.77%), tomato (-28.51%), cauliflower (-21.19%), garlic (-20.32%) were the most expensive items. On the other hand, coconut oil (54.48%), coconut (41.61%), gold (35.56%), silver (30.89%), and onion (30.42%) saw their prices rise.
- Urban inflation declined to 3.32% in February from 3.87% in January. Similarly, urban food inflation declined to 3.20% from 5.53%. Similarly, rural food inflation declined to 3.79% in February from 4.59% in January. Telangana is the state with the lowest inflation (1.13%). Kerala is the state with the highest inflation (7.31%).
- As part of the government’s efforts to strengthen the country’s defence capabilities through indigenous resources, the Ministry of Defence has signed a capital purchase agreement with Bharat Electronics Limited (BHEL), Ghaziabad, for procurement of a low-mobility radar (Aswini) at a cost of Rs. 2,906 crore.
- The radar has been developed indigenously by the Electronics and Radar Design Division of the Defence Research and Development Organisation. The agreement was signed in New Delhi on March 12, 2025 in the presence of Defence Secretary Shri Rajesh Kumar Singh.
- The radar is capable of tracking air-launched targets ranging from high-speed fighter jets to slow-moving targets such as unmanned aerial vehicles and helicopters. This will increase the efficiency of the Indian Air Force.
- The Ministry of Defense has said that the Astra missile, launched from the indigenously developed Tejas light combat aircraft, was successfully tested and hit targets with precision off the Chandigarh coast of Odisha.
