Coal sector among eight core industries grows by 7.5% in November 2024
- According to the Index of Eight Core Industries (ICI - Base Year 2011-12) released by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the coal sector among eight core industries stood at 185.7 points in November 2023. In comparison, in November 2024, it has grown significantly at 199.6 points, or 7.5% (provisional data).
- The Coal Industry Index has grown by 172.9 points during April-November 2024 as compared to 162.5 points during the same period last year. This shows the highest growth of 6.4% among all the eight core industries.
- The ICI measures the combined and individual performance of eight core industries - cement, coal, crude oil, electricity, fertilizers, natural gas, refined products, and steel.
- The composite index of eight core industries has registered a significant increase of 4.3% in November 2024 compared to the same period of the previous year. The index for the period April-November 2024 has increased by 4.2% compared to the same period of the financial year 2023-24. This highlights the significant contribution of the coal sector to the overall industrial growth.
- The driving force behind this significant growth is the significant increase in coal production during the period April-November 2024. Production reached 628.4 million tonnes in the morning.
