Prime Minister Narendra Modi distributes property cards under Swamitva scheme
- The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, distributed over 65 lakh property cards under Swamitva scheme to property owners in over 50,000 villages in over 230 districts across 10 states and 2 Union Territories today (18.01.2025) through video conferencing.
- The Swamitva scheme was launched by the Prime Minister with a vision to enhance the economic progress of rural India by conducting a survey in villages using state-of-the-art drone technology and providing a 'record of rights' to households owning houses.
- The scheme helps in monetizing assets, availing bank loans and thereby repaying financial institution loans, reducing property-related disputes, better valuation of assets and property tax in rural areas and implementing comprehensive planning at the village level.
- The drone survey has been completed in over 3.17 lakh villages. This is 92 percent of the target villages. So far, 2.25 crore property cards have been prepared for 1.53 lakh villages.
- The economic growth of South Asian countries is likely to increase to 6.2 percent in 2025-26. Meanwhile, the Indian economy is expected to continue to grow at 6.7 percent for the next 2 years from April 2025.
- The services sector in India will expand compared to the last financial year. The manufacturing sector will further strengthen due to the central government's initiative to promote a business-friendly economic environment.
- Investments in various sectors will reach stability due to factors such as increasing private investment and stable government investment. Due to low investment and declines in the manufacturing sector, India's economic growth is likely to be 6.5 percent in the current financial year (April 2024-March 2025).
- However, private consumption growth is unlikely to decline due to factors such as improvement in agricultural production and rural income. The growth of other countries in the South Asian region, excluding India, is expected to be 3.9 percent in 2024 (according to the fiscal year followed by the countries).
- This growth is expected as countries such as Pakistan and Sri Lanka recover from the economic downturn. Investments are declining due to the unusual political situation in Bangladesh. Energy shortages and restrictions on imports have affected the supply chain. This has led to a decline in the industrial sector and an increase in the price of essential goods.
- Other countries in the South Asian region, excluding India, are expected to grow by 4 percent in 2025 and 4.3 percent in 2026. Bangladesh's growth will slow to 4.1 percent in the period from July 2024 to June 2025. Meanwhile, Bangladesh's economic growth is expected to increase to 5.4 percent during the period from July 2025 to June 2026.
