- In the presence of Union Minister of State for Communications and Rural Development Dr. Bemmasani Chandrasekhar, Minister of Communications and Development of North Eastern Region, Mr. Jyotiraditya M. Scindia today launched the Fake International Call Prevention System.
- Recently, cybercriminals have been indulging in cybercrime by making international scam calls by showing Indian mobile numbers (+91-xxxxx). Although these calls appear to be from India, they are from abroad. These fake calls have been used for financial fraud, impersonating government officials and creating fear.
- Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and Telecom Services (TSP) have jointly developed a system to prevent such incoming fake international calls from reaching Indian telecom subscribers.
- Within 24 hours of the system becoming operational, around 1.35 crore or 90% of all international calls to Indian phone numbers were identified as fake and blocked from reaching Indian telecom subscribers. Such calls can be helped by reporting suspected fraudulent communications on the website Sanchar Saasthi (www.sancharsaasthi,gov.in).
