President Draupadi Murmu unveiled the flag of the Supreme Court
  • As the Supreme Court completes 75 years in our country, President Draupadi Murmu unveiled the new flag and emblem of the Supreme Court to commemorate it. The flag of the Supreme Court is designed in blue with the Ashoka Chakra, the Supreme Court building and the Constitution of India.
  • Many judges and officials including Supreme Court Chief Justice Chandrachud participated in this program.
The Union Minister launched the SHe-Box website to ensure workplace safety for women
  • In a significant move aimed at improving workplace safety for women, the Ministry of Women and Child Development, 2024, under the leadership of Union Minister for Women and Child Development, Ms. Annapoorna Devi, launched the new SHe-Box platform on 29 August 2024.
  • A centralized platform is designed to streamline the registration and monitoring of complaints related to sexual harassment in the workplace.
  • A new website for the ministry was unveiled at a launch event in New Delhi. Both of these are expected to enhance the government's digital engagement with the public.
1.75 lakh crore GST collection by August 2024
  • According to data released by the central government, the total GST collection in August last fiscal was Rs 1.59 lakh crore. It has collected Rs 1.75 lakh crore in August this year, increasing by 10 percent.
  • Total GST revenue from import of goods increased by 12.1 percent to Rs 49,976 crore in August last year. A refund of Rs 24,460 crore was made to GST payers after deduction of tax that month.
  • This is 38 percent higher than the amount refunded during the same period last year. After deducting refunds, the net GST collection stands at Rs 1.5 lakh crore.
India's foreign exchange reserves hit new high of $681.688 billion - RBI report
  • Foreign exchange reserves are assets held by a country's central bank or monetary authority, typically reserve currencies such as the US dollar, euro, Japanese yen and pound sterling. They act as a buffer for domestic economic activity against global economic shocks.
  • Current estimates indicate that India's foreign exchange reserves are sufficient to cover projected imports for approximately one year.
  • Additionally, India's foreign currency assets (FCA), which constitute the largest portion of foreign exchange reserves, increased by $5.983 billion to reach $597.552 billion, RBI data revealed. Gold reserves increased by $893 million to $60.997 billion.
17th Para Olympics - Silver medal for India's Nishad Kumar
  • The 17th Para Olympics are underway in Paris, the capital of France. In the men's high jump competition held yesterday, Indian player Nishat Kumar won the silver medal by clearing 2.04m.

Union Cabinet approves 7 major projects worth Rs 14,235.30 crore to improve life and livelihood of farmers
  • The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi today approved seven schemes worth Rs 14,235.30 crore to improve the lives of farmers, increase their income and ensure their livelihood.
  • Based on Zitel public infrastructure, the digital agriculture movement will use technology to improve the lives of farmers. A total of Rs 2,817 crore has been earmarked for this movement. The following arrangements have been made in this movement.
  • Crop Science for Food and Nutrition Security - Total allocation Rs.3,979 crore. The initiative will prepare farmers for climate resilience and provide food security by 2047.
  • Strengthening Agricultural Education, Management and Social Sciences – With a total allocation of Rs 2,291 crore, this measure will prepare agricultural students and researchers for the current challenges.
  • Sustainable Livestock Health and Production – A total of Rs 1,702 crore aims to increase farmers' income from livestock and milk.
  • Sustainable development of horticulture – The initiative with a total cost of Rs 1,129.30 crore aims to increase farmers' income from horticultural crops.

Union Cabinet approves one more semiconductor unit under Indian Semiconductor Initiative
  • With the aim of creating a vibrant semiconductor ecosystem, the Union Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has approved the proposal of Keynes Semicon Private Limited to set up a semiconductor unit in Sanand Nagar, Gujarat.
  • This factory is to be set up with an investment of Rs.3,300 crore. The production capacity of this factory is 60 lakh chips per day.
  • The chips manufactured in this segment cater to a wide variety of applications that include segments such as industrial, automotive, electric vehicles, consumer electronics, telecommunications, mobile phones, etc.
