Chennai High Court Chief Justice KR Sriram sworn in
- The collegium had recommended the name of Senior Judge of the Bombay High Court KR Sriram as the Chief Justice of the Madras High Court last July.
- Subsequently, KR Sriram was appointed as the Chief Justice of Madras High Court. In this case, today (September 27) he was sworn in as the Chief Justice of the Court. Governor RN Ravi administered the oath of office to him.
- Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated the High Performance Computing (HPC) system acquired by the Ministry of Earth Sciences, designed for weather and climate research. This ambitious project will cost Rs. 850 crore investment. This marks a significant leap forward in India's computational capabilities for more reliable, accurate weather, climate forecasting.
- These are located at two major locations, the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM) at Pune and the National Center for Medium Range Weather Forecasting (NCMRRWF) at Noida.
- The IITM system has an impressive capacity of 11.77 beta flops and 33 petabytes of storage, while the NCMRWF facility has 8.24 beta flops with 24 petabytes of storage.

With this expansion, the Ministry of Earth Sciences will increase its total computing power to 22 beta flops, a significant increase from the previous capacity of 6.8 beta flops.
- In keeping with tradition, these sophisticated systems are named after the celestial bodies associated with the Sun. Earlier systems were named Aditya, Bhaskara, Pratiyush, Mihir. The new HBC systems are aptly named 'Arga', 'Arunika'. This reflects their connection to the Earth system's primary energy source, the Sun.
