The President inaugurated the Governors' Conference at the President's House today
  • President Mrs. Draupadi Murmu inaugurated the Conference of Governors at the President's House in New Delhi today (August 2, 2024). The conference will discuss a wide range of issues that not only play an important role in shaping Centre-State relations but also play a vital role in improving welfare schemes for the common man.
  • Inaugurating the conference, the President said that the agenda of this conference has been carefully selected with crucial issues to achieve our national goals.
  • The conference is designed so that sub-committees of governors hold sessions to discuss each agenda item. Apart from Governors, Union Ministers and officials of concerned Ministries will also attend these sessions. 
  • The views and recommendations of the sub-committees will be presented before the President, Vice President, Prime Minister and other participants during the concluding session tomorrow (August 3, 2024).
The Central Electricity Authority has approved two plants for raising and storing water
  • The Central Electricity Authority has approved two hydropower plants, 600 MW Indravati in Odisha and 2000 MW Sharavati in Karnataka. The Electricity Authority has also received proposals of hydropower plants (about 60 GW) under measurement and study for preparation of detailed project reports. 
  • All developers are at various stages in the process of preparing a detailed project report. After preparation of detailed project reports, they will be uploaded by the developers on the website for compliance with the Central Electricity Authority under Section 8 of the Electricity Act, 2003.
  • In line with the Central Government's Ease of Doing Business policy, the Central Electricity Authority has further revised the guidelines to simplify the process of preparation of Detailed Project Statements for PSBs and facilitate its approval.
6 major agreements signed between India and Vietnam
  • Vietnam, a South East Asian country, is an important country in the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) organization. The Prime Minister of that country, Bam Minh Sin, has arrived in India on a three-day visit.
  • He met Prime Minister Narendra Modi yesterday. During this meeting, six important agreements were signed. Further, a detailed review of the three agreements was also done. 
  • Following this, Prime Minister Modi said: "Vietnam is a very important country in our policy of closeness with the Eastern countries and in our vision of a strong and independent Indo-Pacific region. 
  • There are strong ties between the two countries. We are traveling with the goal of becoming a developed country by 2047. Similarly, Vietnam is traveling with the goal of Vision 2045. Together we will help each other along with the development of their country. India always supports development. 
  • It opposes invading other countries and expanding its borders. In this way, we will work together with Vietnam to ensure that all countries in the Indo-Pacific region are free and peaceful. A loan of Rs 2,500 crore will be provided to carry out many development works in Vietnam, he said. They started it through video conference.
