Rajaraja Chola period copper coin found in Marungur excavations
  • Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K.Stal inaugurated the excavation works at 8 places namely Polpanaikotta, Kilnamandi, Kongalnagaram, Sennanur, Geezadi, Vembakottai, Thirumalapuram, and Marungur through a video presentation.
  • At present three pits are being excavated and studied, in one pit a copper coin of the Chola period was found at a depth of 40 cm. This coin belongs to the first Rajaraja Chola period. This coin is 23.3. cm in diameter, 2.5 mm thick and weighs 3 grams.
  • The obverse of this coin features a human figure with the left hand pointing downwards and the right hand pointing upwards. A seated human figure is seen on the back side with the right hand pointing downwards and the left hand pointing upwards. 
  • The discovery of a copper coin of Mamannan I Rajaraja is considered to be of particular interest, indicating that the cultural soil layer above the Marungur excavation site is of historic date.
Goods & Services Tax (GST) Collection for June 2024
  • Goods and Services Tax was introduced from July 2017. GST has been in place for eight years. Monthly collection of collection procedure will be notified every month. GST collections for May increased by 10 percent to Rs. 1.73 lakh crore. In this case, GST collection in June was 7.7 percent and Rs. 1.74 lakh crore. 
  • In this CGST, Rs. 39,586 crore, SGST. Rs. 33,548 crores. 8 percent EST in June this year compared to last financial year. Collections are reported to have increased. GST in the last month of Abramal. It recorded a record collection of Rs 2.20 lakh crore.
India-Thailand joint military exercise Maitri
  • Indian Army contingents went to participate in the 13th edition of the India-Thailand joint military exercise Maitree. The exercise is scheduled to be held from July 1 to 15 at Wachiraprakhan Fort in Thak Province, Thailand. The last edition of the same exercise was conducted in Umroi, Meghalaya in September 2019.
  • The 76-strong Indian Army regiment consists mainly of a battalion of the Ladakh Scouts, along with soldiers from other arms and regiments. The Royal Thai Army unit consists of 76 soldiers mainly from the 1st Battalion, 4th Regiment of the 14th Infantry Regiment.
  • The purpose of the Maitree exercise is to foster military cooperation between India and Thailand. Under Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter, the exercise will enhance integrated capabilities in combating insurgency and terrorist activities in forest and urban environments. This training will focus on high level physical fitness, joint planning and joint strategy.
Global India Artificial Intelligence Summit 2024
  • The Global India Artificial Intelligence Summit will be held on July 3 and 4. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology is going to host the summit which will be attended by international delegates, artificial intelligence experts and policy makers. The summit will demonstrate commitment to responsible development of artificial intelligence globally.
  • The Global India Artificial Intelligence Summit will be inaugurated by the Union Minister of Electronics and Information Technology, Railways and Information and Broadcasting Mr. Ashwini Vaishnav. Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology, Commerce and Industry Mr. Jitin Prasad will attend the inauguration ceremony.
  • Organized against the backdrop of India's leadership role in the Global Partnership for Artificial Intelligence, the summit aims to set new benchmarks in addressing the multifaceted challenges and opportunities offered by Artificial Intelligence. 
  • Focusing on the themes of computing, foundational models, datasets, application development, future capabilities, startup funding, secure and reliable artificial intelligence, the event ensures comprehensive discussions on the entire artificial intelligence.
Ministry of Defense MoU for setting up of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, Electronic Weapons and Electro-Optics Test Labs on Tamil Nadu Defense Industry Highway
  • The Ministry of Defense has signed an MoU for setting up three state-of-the-art test labs for Unmanned Aircraft, Electronic Weapons and Electro-Optics on the Tamil Nadu Defense Industry Highway.
  • The agreement, under the Defense Test Infrastructure Scheme (DTIS), was signed in New Delhi today (02.07.2024) in the presence of Defense Secretary Mr. Krithar Aramane, between the Ministry of Defense and the Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO).
  • Defense Minister Mr. Rajnath Singh, in May 2020, launched the Rs 400 crore DTIS project to set up state-of-the-art test labs in collaboration with Central / State Governments and private companies. 
  • The scheme aims to promote domestic defense logistics production, reduce military logistics imports and increase self-reliance. A total of 7 laboratories have been sanctioned, 4 in Tamil Nadu and 3 in Uttar Pradesh to promote defense and aerospace industries in the Defense Industry Highway. An MoU was signed today for setting up 3 test labs in Tamil Nadu.
  • Through the Defense Experimental Infrastructure Scheme, the government will provide 75 per cent funding. The remaining 25 percent will be provided by an exclusive body comprising Indian private companies and central and state governments.
  • The unmanned aerial vehicle testing facility will be provided by the Kerala government company Keltron along with some private companies. The facility for the other two labs will be provided by India Electronics Corporation and India Optel.
  • When the project is completed, state-of-the-art testing equipment and services will be provided to government and private sector organizations to encourage self-reliance in the defense sector.
