Union Government approves bifurcation of Tamil Nadu Power Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO)
- The Tamil Nadu government had sought permission from the Union government to bifurcate the Tamil Nadu Power Generation and Distribution Corporation. Now, the Union Energy Department has approved the Tamil Nadu government's order to split Danjetco into two.
- Thus the Tamil Nadu Power Generation and Distribution Corporation will henceforth function as Tamil Nadu Power Generation Corporation (TNPDCL) and Tamil Nadu Green Energy Corporation (TNGECL).
- In the year 1975, then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi had implemented Emergency on 25th June. The Emergency is still criticized by opposition parties as a black day in the history of independent India.
- In this case, the central government has declared this day as the Constitutional Assassination Day. According to this, the central government has issued a decree that 25th June will be observed as Constitutional Massacre Day in the coming years.
- To strengthen transport connectivity in the rural areas in the north-eastern part of the country and to accelerate economic development in the north-eastern region, the Ministry of Rural Development under the transport development aspect of the Prime Minister's Janman scheme has allocated a sum of Rs. 114.32 crore has been approved. This will provide all-weather road connectivity to 47 tribal areas in the state.
- To strengthen rural transport connectivity and accelerate economic development in the North Eastern states, the Ministry of Rural Development has approved the construction of 78 roads and 14 bridges spanning 563.67 kilometers under the Prime Minister's Rural Roads Scheme at a cost of Rs 378.68 crore to the state of Assam.
- This initiative will improve the socio-economic status of the area and reduce the gap between remote villages and urban areas.
- With a view to making the Unified Freight Interchange Platform (ULIP) more effective, an MoU has been signed between the National Industrial Corridor Development Corporation, Freight Data Services Corporation and the Gujarat Infrastructure Development Board to digitize the freight infrastructure of Gujarat.
- This integration is expected to visualize streamlining of freight operations, increase collaboration between various state departments and improve decision-making processes through data insights.
- This comprehensive machinery will empower stakeholders in the government and private sectors to efficiently monitor and manage freight operations across the state.
